Thank you also Jay. That is wonderful you are able to adopt senior cats. My wife has always had a very hard time whenever we have lost any pet in the past. Squeaker will probably be our last as it is just way to hard on my dear wife.

We also adopted several kitties from a no-kill shelter.

I totally see your wife's point of view. It's difficult when they pass. Gracie was the first to go so fast, 18 months. I will see how Charlie does the next couple of months before I even think about another adoption.

Coming from Gib, it can't be a GOOD thing, but better than loving you like a jail mate.

Stole this picture from Facebook. This is some of us from the Year End Celebratory Ride with Blackwell Cycle. The weather doesn't look too bad in this pic, but the shop was in a narrow, protected spot with the wind direction at the time. I'm in the red jacket, my nephew Austin is to my left. He loved being out riding in the snow, and the guys were all commenting about having a young person finally join in. Austin is 13 and loves biking. When riding starts up again in the spring, I'll take him along to the group trail rides.

Looks horribly cold. I see Austin has a Trek. He's got good taste in bikes!

It was cold. Hit a high of -12C with the sun out. By the time we went riding is was colder and the wind was brutal. I was wearing my -10C rated snow pants over my biking leggings, three long sleeved shirts (Omni-freeze base layer, Omni-shade [wicking] mid layer, Omni-heat top layer), ski jacket, balaclava, ski gloves, and grippy snow boots. Bike helmet and clear safety glasses.
While we were riding with the wind, I was comfortable-to-sweating. When we changed direction and were riding into the wind, I was cold. The balaclava definitely wasn't heavy enough and the helmet lets the wind right in.

Austin has a Trek 3500 that's 2 1/2 years old. He's incredibly rough on everything, so when the family needed new bikes they decided to go with higher end bikes in hopes that his would last a bit longer. He's already blown the front fork, worn the brakes right out, and the rear shifter has issues. But it's all fixable. I've told him he needs to fix the bike up before we go trail riding in the spring.

I now know what a balaclava is! Sniper mask! I rode daily up until I was ~30 when I moved to Cali. I had the classic Schwinn 10 speed that everyone seemed to own at the time. 25 years later, I have a Trek Shift 4 which is a great bike. It's more of a comfort bike, so it makes life easier, I'm not as hunched over. I'm not nearly as rough as your nephew, mine is still all original...so far.

A balaclava is an essential piece of winter clothing for Canadians. I have several.

I thought it was a Greek/Turkish pastry made with honey and filo. Quite sticky and messy.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I had to Google "balaclava", had never heard of it before.

Looks like something I could use here in Indiana now. It was -10 F degrees here this morning when I woke up, but now it is a warm +10 F degrees! The heat wave finally got here! (maybe?)

So a balaclava is head/face covering?

I don't know about that ... What I've been really wanting in these winter times is a really nice "wrap-around with covering for both feet, ankles and legs as well as torso places that can get cold ...
It seems like some such thing could be useful and popular in witry times/places ??
