Tonight's Mega Millions Lottery drawing is estimated to be worth 1 billion dollars ($1,000,000,000).

If all the possible winning tickets were stacked horizontally, the stack would be 47.75 miles long.

If you took 1 second to glance at each ticket, it would take you 9 years and 6 1/2 months to see all the tickets.
---
The cash option is roughly $600,000,000.
Roughly 40% goes to taxes - $360,000,000 net.

To spend it all in 25 years (no interest or investments):

$14,400,000 every year or,
$39,452.05 every day or,
$1,643.84 every hour or,
$27.40 every minute or,
~$0.46 every second.

GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE!

I saw on the news the lottery officials said if no one wins the Friday night lottery, the roll over will be $1.6 Billion

No winner, so that's what they're saying this morning! World record jackpot.

BTW, I was in an office lottery pool with 45 numbers working. We didn't win a thing.

The myth of more numbers significantly increasing your odds. :) I have better odd being bitten by a shark while getting struck by lightning while being sucked by a tornado. I wish they would have gone the other way, more winners and smaller pots. I would love to see 1600 million dollar winners instead of one 1.6 billion winner.

Well, I'll be damn. I thought I was the ONLY one to want the same thing! Lottery officials claim everyone wants larger pots which is why they're next to impossible to win now (as if they weren't before).
I would be much more willing to play if my ticket was good for several drawings on the same night for pieces of the same pot.

Or just remove a number from the pool which greatly increases the odds of winning. Right now Mega Millions is 1 in 302.6 million. In stead of picking numbers from 1 to 70, make it 1 to 40 or something so the odds become greater leading to more winners.

Lotteries with better odds win more often
which results in smaller jackpots
which results in fewer sells.

Their research tells them higher jackpots will increase ticket sells.
Thus, these odds were designed to decrease the number of winners resulting in more roll over jackpots increasing the jackpot amounts to increase ticket sells.
It seems to have worked for them.

Which goes to show you how stup... uh... naive people are.

Of course, to my luck, 1 out of 302.6mil is the same as 1 out of 300, so it makes no never mind to me.

Just got back ourselves with an apple turnover and the grocer brand wavy queso potato chips among other things. It's movie night.
