I've seen the shootout replay two or three times now so I switched over to Men's Curling, USA vs Sweden.

I don't know why NBC repeats the stuff as often as they do. We have three channels with Olympic coverage and NBC sports seems to have it live in the morning, then the same stuff is covered on NBC prime time on their main channel. What about giving air time to some of the lesser known winter sports or are there really that few sports.

I think the network is trying to re-live the "Miracle on Ice" from 1980. They're trying to make it look like beating the Russians is still a big deal when the cold war has been over for 24 years. Now Russia is just another country competing in the Olympics. Sure, the game had a thrilling finish, but it's just not the same as it was in 1980. Now if that game had been between the US and Canada...

In 1980, it was a true "Miracle on Ice", as a bunch of amateurs beat a professional team. Now with everyone sending pros to the Olympics, the game has lost a lot of the luster.

This.. 1980 was special but now it's more or less the NHL shuffled up. USAs whole team is from the NHL as is Canada's. Russia had 15, Finland has 18, Sweden has 19, the Checks had 17 heck, even Latvia has two. I know that they are the best players but in the process, the magic is gone. It's just another hockey game

I'm building a stone wall. I love stone work.

Our stones are all frozen to the ground, no wall building.

But I did go to our 31st Annual Bennett Family Curling Bonspiel today, and threw some stones around, and that was a lot of fun. :)

If I wanted to watch the NHL All-Star game, I would. What ever happened to the Olympics being the best amateur athletes in the world? It used to be that the Olympics were a stepping stone to the pros...do well and get a shot at making it a career. Now it is the NHL, the NBA and other professional leagues sending their best. I used to look forward to watching, now I can't be bothered to even turn it on.

I feel the same way. The Olympics has become the best of the best and that's ok but somewhere there should be a venue where amateurs can have their day. I guess the Olympic committee figured out that many athletes were in essence pros anyway.

And this is why I love watching the women's hockey, no pros. And because Canada has been thrashing every team they've come up against.

CBC has amazing coverage of the olympics. I think they have 16 different webcast "channels" that you can choose from.

That, and the hyping of the US athletes by the media, has raised our expectations, as a nation, of our Olympic athletes, to the point of invincibility. When they fall short, as most have in these games, we are just that much more disappointed. I think it would be interesting to watch other countries' coverage of the Olympics and compare it to the way NBC covers the games. It might be eye opening...

We are lucky just to win one medal at all, current tally is a silver and bronze. Our few medal hopes get built up in major ways also. We only have one commercial station covering the games and I've watched little or none of the coverage.

Part of what prompted it, is the fact the most Olympic sports do host the best in the world in their discipline. Track, swimming, skiing, etc, have always showcased the best in the world, not just the amateurs. With hockey, it took the cooperation with the professional leagues to make it work. Plus with hockey in the past, teams like the 'Russian Army' team, who probably could not even load a rifle, that played hockey full time though were labelled as soldiers, had an unfair advantage.

I really enjoy watching the Olympic hockey, both men and women. By the viewing statistics, and it being one of the most watched sports, it would seem others enjoy it too.

Around here, I enjoy watching the Calgary Hitmen, a minor league team, just as much as the flames. There seems to be more heart in their play. I guess this is one thing with the Olympics, I do believe it brings out more heart in the NHL players that attend.

There are actually a lot of competitions that host amateurs only. From collegiate sport, Pan Am Games, Commonwealth games, and many more. They just don't get the coverage (and viewership) of the Olympics or pro sports.

I guess the words, "I mean..." are the new "umm.." when beginning the answer to a question. I swear, 80% of the people getting interviewed on TV, whether they be Olympic athletes, or SI swimsuit models, or people on the street, start off with, "I mean..." when asked something.

If you need to, take two seconds of silence to compose a freakin' thought.

And that's all I have to say about that.

You have to use it in answer to a question, Lonnie. C'mon, man.
