All those commercials worked then. They went out and bought Cadillacs.

Subsidies and old men + status symbols = Cadillacs FTW.

Unlike those stay at home mums who do the shool run in a land rover or range rover.

Status that they've (or at least their sig other) have made it.

It looked like a Cadi meetup out front

I'm coming up on 2 years. I should have done this move a long time ago. Life here is much better. I work for a demanding guy but no where near as crazy as back in IL. Out running every night, lost 50 pounds and feeling much better. Time to get the bike in shape and hit some of the trails around here.

Great to hear the change has been for the better not only mentally but physically as well. You are gaining back those years you probably lost due to the higher stress back in IL. Seems like Lance is also riding out back in texas again. You can see his rides here:

My vehicle of choice is a Honda minivan. I couldn't care less about status or keeping up with the Joneses. It's very utilitarian, and comfy when the kids and grand kids come to visit.

I'm with Moose. Not interested in status. Although if I won the lottery I might be tempted to get a Porsche Cayenne S. I had a chance to drive one, and it was seriously FUN ride. :-)

In the mean time I'll just keep pushing my dusty old 4Runner with almost 200k miles down the road.

Funny you mention minivans. Mayra and I have been looking at a few of them since the autoshow. The space they provide is perfect for fitting our bikes inside without taking the wheels off :) Specifically the sienna. The cargo space is just massive.

That Porsche has some serious kick to it Tim! A former coworker of mine has one.

I opted to go full size conversion van. It was significantly less expensive. Got about the same mileage as the Honda, and I can fit 4 bikes in the back not taken apart and 4 adults, cooler, camera stuff and have lots of room left over. It can be used as a pickup, moving van, seats 7 comfortable, just a practical vehicle.

I bought an old Caddie from a farmer years ago. I think it was a 1965 or a 1967, can't remember which. It was a comfy ride and ginormous inside,

My first car,.. scratch that, my first car that actually drove more than one day a month between work, was a 1969 Cadillac Hearse.
It became my work truck as a Carpenter, it was my camper, it was a VERY sick and fast street racer ( 472 ci engine!) and, well my own mother referred to it as "The **** Truck"
It never broke down.

It did NOT make me feel like an old man ;)

It was the best car I have ever owned. :)

Well, I had noticed on previous outings that there were ponds/wetlands within the nearby farmlands that you can pass by, so on this outing with my little compact digicam that I picked up for $5, I parked my bike on the side of the road at the farm fence and stood there trying to get some ducks and geese that were hanging out. These two goats were back in the farmyard across the pond, but this white one I figured thought that I'd have some food and ran around the pond up to by where I was. I had to wait a while until it was in decent light and faced in a decent direction for a "portrait", and that was the result, not bad for a P&S-type camera!

Dang Omar, you really went out in the sticks. Andes is a neat little town. I'm guessing you rode down to the Pepacton? People have long chuckled about the fascination with Cadillacs in Andes. Closest dealers are in Liberty or Oneonta (about 30 miles either way) and yet there are a ton of Caddys there. There might just be more Caddys per capita in Andes than any other community on the face of the planet.

The nearest we get to it is front wheels removed in the SUV. Not too bad!

Now that's a sweet idea! Nothing beats being able to just roll the bikes into a van. Did you retro fit it with straps inside to keep them from moving around?

Nice tony! It looks like you have some good diversity there. I only see goats here very rare. A lot of the farms just do not have any.

Dan I forgot you are very familiar with upstate New York! When I get on my laptop I will post the links to my rides so you can see the areas I went through. The cadi phenomena there is so odd. We could not understand it so we asked Walter an 86 year old farmer who came to breakfast with his wife about it. He was the 5th person to drive up in one and we couldn't figure out why all of these cadis were showing up in a tiny town in the middle of no where

No. I use the two outside seat belts to keep the bikes vertical and bungee cords between them with a few carefully placed bath mat type rugs to keep them from rubbing in places that can scratch the paint.

The reason we went full size is that at the time we were looking the smaller vans cost about the same and they weren't dealing whereas the dealers were much more willing to deal on the larger ones. Without trade we got the van for 21k 10 years ago. Gas mileage isn't great, I think the Honda was getting something like 22mpg and our van can get 20mpg if you baby it. But the extra room was worth the few extra mpg. It's a pain to take out the beck seat because it's heave so we just keep it out all the time and cover the floor with a sheet of plywood because we haul so much stuff with it. But it still seats 4 comfortable with tons or leg room. All in all it's a comfortable and practical ride. Another positive, parts for the thing are really cheap when comparing it to some of the imports. Brake pads are about $35 for a set, roters are cheaper, all in all the maintenance has been very inexpensive. In the 10 years we have owned it the biggest repair is replacing the front end ball joints which we had a shop do. I think is was a $600 repair. Other than that, just normal routine maintenance.

I'm the round circular thing just off to the left. That's before my weight loss. :)
