My father was born and raised in Greece, after emigrating and starting a family he found himself in sales. Wound up being very good at it and making a wonderful living for us. He represented a manufacturer that sold Christmas goods, artificial flowers/wreaths/trees and such. One of the stores he sold to was called Kris Kringle's and he spent year's calling the owner Kris, completely unaware of who Kris Kringle was!

Isn't that a great way to be? I have the same "problem..."

I suspect a lot of people have allergies because their parents were germaphobes and lavished them with things like hand sanitizer whenever they touched something and never let them play outside for fear of disease. Their immune systems were never given the opportunity to develop fully. Having grown up in the 1950's and 60's, I did ALL the things parents today are afraid to let their kids do.

I inherited the evergreen tree allergy. Every Christmas my grandfather would get pneumonia, they finally figured out that he was allergic to the Christmas tree. I'm not that bad.

We grew up "in the dirt". We follow(ed) proper hygiene and that included a daily dose of outdoor time. I still drink from the hose, without a second thought. Us kids have great immune systems.

I tried them a couple times in my back yard. They're now called dead plumbagos. Apparently, they don't enjoy the dry heat and constant sun.

Where'd you find the Anole, Dan?

They seem to thrive in the moist environment of the Orlando area southward to Miami...only place I've seen them.

The little green guy was wandering the streets of Orlando, he had many disparaging remarks about a similar looking character with a bad Aussie accent.

Pretty much, Harm. My dad came to NY in 1946, he joined the Air Force and lived in California while teaching in the Army Language School, but returned to NYC to use the GI bill for school and then got married and had kids and here we are! My grandfather had come to the US through Ellis Island in 1917 and became a citizen, he went back to greece in the early 20's and never returned, but my dad had citizenship because of this.

My wifey and I have been heading closer towards the simplistic life. Last night we bought her a 1990 Chevrolet Suburban with big tires and lifted, she is in love with it. She is 5'5" tall and can barely look over the hood... Just like the one she had after high school.

Me? I am going to miss our Yukon Denali but I won't miss the payment.

You have no idea how good that sounds to me. I'd love to chuck at least 3/4ths of the crap we have, and move into a much smaller low maintenance home with a simple yard, no pool, in a smaller town. It's amazing the junk we think we need to have in order to be happy.

I was able to sell, donate, give away, throw away about 1/2 of all we had accumulated when we moved from IL to TX. We still have too much stuff. We continue to simplify. We could easily move into a much smaller house but really like where we are currently living. And I couldn't live without a pool. That's a must have.

a) Waiting 'till I retire (maybe 1 1/2 years) to make any big changes
b) My aging father lives here, and may delay any plans of moving away
c) Not sure the wife would be as pleased as I with a layed-back simplistic minimalistic lifestyle.

We have been doing that.. when we moved in to our house (3800 sq ft) it was extremely empty. Now 7 years later it's packed full, so earlier this year we decided to simplify. Almost minimalist. We have hauled four pick up trucks worth of stuff away and still working on more. Even going to sell the house to get away from the size, the pool, the yard, etc.

I love having a pool, but it's getting to be a pain to keep up. And now I think I have a leak in the plumbing, probably under the pool itself. Hoping not, but I have to keep adding salt, and our water usage last month was the highest it's ever been. My plan is to move somehwere cooler... Idaho, maybe. I could live without one there.
