LVMoose Moose gets blamed for everything. More info | I'm at work as well. Got up early to shoot the eclipse. I made the mistake of using a one-second shutter speed. Got motion blur. I'm pissed. Moose

Got up early to shoot the eclipse. I made the mistake of using a one-second shutter speed. Got motion blur. I'm pissed. At least I got lucky with the clouds; It was covered, but came out in time for the beginning of the red phase, then the clouds came back just as the eclipse was at its max (3:55 here). Looks like I would've had some decent shots, but for the shutter speed ![]() The moon is deceivingly bright. Keep the moony-11 rule in mind. f/11 with the shutter speed the inverse of the ISO and you'll get really close. During an eclipse it's a bit different though as the moon gets a lot dimmer. I have found it best to do a lot of chimping, take a picture and look at the histogram and make the appropriate adjustment. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Didn't take any pictures though. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

And looking at the LCD it appeared that the blood moon would have been fine. Hard to see a little motion blur on a screen that size. I'll know better next time. Of course I'll have to wait 'till the next one in 2015 Moose

I tend to try to get f/8 as it generally is the lenses sweet spot and also get a much higher shutter speed. ISO400 f/8 1/800. At this speed it's easy to handhold even at 400mm and you don't have to use MLU, tripods, or timers. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

LVMoose Moose gets blamed for everything. More info | How come, when I'm at home waiting for a package, it gets there in the late afternoon, and if I take the day off to make sure I'm home, it gets there after 6pm when I would have been home anyway, and when I'm at work it gets there at 1PM? Moose

Probably because you saw "Oct 8th" and thought it was the night, not the early morning. I've been burned by that before. Not sure why, but call me JJ.
