These crazy family events make me rather thankful for the stable family I grew up in.

My parents held to "till death do us part". Mom's parents did as well. So did Dad's parents. Dad's three siblings have/are too.

My BIL Randy has a crazy, confusing family. Bobby had two or three kids before marrying Marion. He and Marion had Jeremy and Randy, and then split. Marion married Tiny - who already had a son - and had they had Tasha. So Randy has five (or six) siblings, but only one full sibling.

My BIL Steve has less family, but his parents were split early on and there was a lot of hate for a long time. Steve also has a (crazy, as they say) ex-wife and two kids, and now my sister is saying they may have their own kids.

My SIL Penny's parents are still working through a messy, hateful divorce.

Growing up we had nice family events. There always was a little friction, as is normal with any amount of people, but nothing significant. Everybody loved each other. Now, when these family events are with the extended families, there is lots of friction and dislike and uneasiness. I really don't like it.

I miss being a kid sometimes. Grandma always hosted family dinners. Big farm kitchen full of yummy smells, living room full of aunts and uncles and cousins, and the den was always full of Lego. We would build cities and towers and walls and defenses, then my uncle would build bombs and bomb our cities. He knew how to build the bombs so they would explode on impact. All the food was homemade, and any whipped cream that was to be had was fresh made from actual cream. (Benefits of owning dairy cattle) After dinner it was turkey coma time.

Tonight was rough. SIL's family made all the decisions but neglected to tell our side of the family what was going on. When I got there, SIL's mother raked me over the coals about not showing up with bread buns. By the time anyone had actually confirmed with us that the dinner was happening, it was too late to make them. Plus I didn't have the ingredients and the grocery stores were closed. She told me that every family event is a potluck and that in the future there is no way I can show up without bringing buns. She seems to have forgotten that last Christmas she lectured me on bringing buns that contained an ingredient that she's allergic to. So, I guess for the next family event, I either show up with those allergen riddled buns, or not show up at all.

My vote is for bringing deadly buns.

My wife and eldest daughter haven't been talking for the past couple of months, due to some BS my daughters partner started. Could be uncomfortable when we all meet at my other daughter's house in Tucson for Thanksgiving. I hate drama.

I used to make special brownies. From scratch. They rocked.

Buying/possessing/partaking of the special ingrediants probably wouldn't go over well with my current employer.

The problem with special brownies is that everyone would be affected. Can't be having the kids getting merry.

This family loves to make a scene over "allergies". Two of them are allergic to eggs, that's a real allergy. But when one says that dairy gives them headaches, and that we have to keep all dairy out of every food item, it gets a tad annoying. Especially when you see them eating cheese. My sister always uses milk or butter in mashed potatoes. So far, without them knowing that, not one of them has had a "reaction".

Oh, and they completely ignore anyone else's allergies. They "can't be bothered" to leave peppers or ginger out of their cooking.

I wish. My wife thinks it's going to be too early as it is.

Does this work well for a senior picture? Only have the Xti and I used the 100mm 2.8 lens.

^ I can't see it on my work computer, but I'm sure it's dandy, just because it's yours.

Far from it, my senior picture looked scary. I chose to not get a senior yearbook, thank goodness. I wanted a "Picture not submitted" in my spot.

I'm not talking about your senior picture. I mean that's a given. I'm talking about any senior pictures you might take. Or any pictures, in general.

Wait, wait, wait.
You actually made it to the 12th grade? That's awesome, dude. :D

Thanksgiving dinner time. I am thankful for the amount of time I get to spend away from people.

Our "family" dinner is quickly becoming the "inlaws" dinner. Arrived at my brother's house to discover that my SIL's mother, sister, brother + wife, and grandparents are all here. No one told us that they were coming.

Our Thanksgiving dinner was out at our land, with only 23 friends and family this year. Deep fried turkeys, and a ham done in our very old wood stove, along with lots of other yummy goods were eaten.

It was nice enough here that we ate outside too. Great fun was had by all. Fortunately in our family, we have no great dramas like many others I know. :)

I got to witness this happening just a few weeks ago. I won't say who, but he is a near 60 year old broker in high standing with Merrill Lynch, who had not partaken in said substance since being a teen. He was constantly giggling like a crazed school girl. Very interesting indeed. :)

I think it works well for a senior picture. It's a fabulous photo.
