Been open 2 hours and we've had 17 cars towed in for dead batteries this morning. Every single one of them had a battery that was 5+ years old. Get your battery checked people.

We had that last winter. The shop had bought a really nice handheld battery tester in the middle of the summer. Just about every oil change that came it got the battery tested, recommended tons of them be replaced either immediately or before cold weather hit. When the temps dropped to a steady -20C for weeks on end, it was a non-stop parade of dead batteries. We were selling a whole month's supply in a few hours. Eventually, everyone was sold out of just about every size of battery.

I had absolutely no compassion for the folks that had refused to replace it earlier when I told them that it was ready to fail. Especially the ones that argued that "it's only 4 years old, there's nothing wrong with it".

We have so many of those types of customers.

A lot of batteries here last about 2 years. Don't know what's worse, extreme heat or extreme cold.

I've seen more fail due to cold than heat but we don't have extreme heat here often.

I see the cold kill batteries and the heat kill alternators, which kills the battery. We have a wonderful international crossing here, that gets really busy. In the middle of the summer, on really hot days, when the traffic is lined up back across the bridge we would get dead vehicles coming off the bridge. Sitting in line, in gear, with the A/C cranked and the radio on, the alternator just could not keep up with the electrical load at an idle. Battery would get drained and the vehicle wouldn't start the next time. Cooling systems take a beating too.

^ and tires. In high summer here, oodles of cars pulled over with shredded tires.

I was behind a truck when it threw it's tread. Missed me but sure got the adrenalin pumping. Then this last summer I was next to a truck when the tire blew. I had no idea it was that loud.

Yeah, I was next to one once when that happened. Luckily, there was no one in the lane to my left, 'cause I swerved into it.

Trucks lose their tread and shred tires plenty, but we don't see regular vehicles losing tires too much. Run over something or simply run the tires into the ground and they'll blow, but we don't see heat killing them much.

I must have as well. It was incredible loud and my windows were closed.

I need my head examined. Office renovations are nuts. I have some interesting photos to edit and no computers online. This silly project was supposed to be finished last Sunday...arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.

Posting and trying to read here by phone is less than thrilling too.
