You would think, huh? If I lived up in critter country like Montana, Wyoming, Idaho... maybe I'd dream of a 600 or 800 prime. But at 11-14K that would be just a pipe-dream. I've pretty much got everything I need for the kind of shooting I do.

I've overcome most of my GAS (gear aquisition syndrome) but I keep lusting after an EF-300mm f/2.8L IS  No really good reason for it since I have a sharp copy of a 100-400 that works very well. But there it is... -?

Tim, did you ever find a Help Portrait group to hook up with?

Ours ended up being a go, and I am so glad it did. I was hordes, and hordes, of great fun. Sooooo many smiles, just fantastic.

We handed out nearly 1,000 8x10s to some people currently down on their luck.

We have a meeting next Friday to preplan next years event, so we don't get hit in a scramble like we did this year. Methinks I will become way more active in the planning. The green light did not go on until Tuesday for us.

The Help Portrait group here was a bust. Trying to find a place and organizing something at the last minute didn't work for the local organizations I contacted. I did make a couple of good contacts, so we'll try again with them in the Fall next year.

I should have a Tamron 24-70 arriving on Wednesday via Mr. Brownshorts.

This will be the first time in... forever... or at least since I've been into photography... that there's nothing on my wish list. Time to die?

Nah, I don't have anything on my wishlist either.

Too bad. At least now you have a full year to plan for the next one.

We get to have so much fun, all while helping others out. Total win-win situation. Unbelievable the great response and thanks we get from those we photographed. Lots of great stories come out of it too. I shot two brothers, probably well into their 40s, that had spent most of their adult life apart, and did not have a single photo of them together. Another fellow wrote a fantastic Christmas note on a piece of cardboard, held it up in front of him, and plans to send it back home to family he has not seen in many years. The list goes on, and on, with stories like this. It really is hard to believe without doing it, that a single photo can make so much difference to someone.

If you ever need any help or pointers, fire away with questions. Though we are still learning, we do know a few things that work good for us.

I'll take you up on that offer next year when we begin the planning. Thanks!

I have nothing on my wish list either. I have been ready to upgrade for quite some time and have the $$ socked away, but neither the 5DIII or new 7DII really excite me. I don't need the fancy AF and outside of that there is little to interest me. The new 810 or 750 interest me but it's too big a pain to switch.

He is an old fuddy-duddy. If it isn't Viagra, it won't get him excited...

The 5DIII is a fine camera and I have shot with one many times. If I didn't have the 5DII I would jump on the 5DIII. However, bottom line for me, the 5DII and the 5DIII create so close to the the exact same image that it makes no sense for me to upgrade. I don't need the features as I MF nearly all the time. I'm looking for image quality.

But for indoor portraits, does the 5Dii come close to the 5Diii or the 6D?

If ya'll have such empty wish lists you can put a few on there for me. I'd love to upgrade from my "cheap trio", especially since the 18-55 is showing disturbing signs of old age. Being that this hobby nets me no income, it's difficult to justify spending the money.

I don't do much portraiture but the 5DII does just fine, even in low light. But usually indoors I'm going to shoot flash anyway but in the cases where flash isn't allowed or flash would be distracting, ISO6400 is very usable.
