The town I grew up in flooded really bad in 1997 before we got flood walls. I can distinctly remember watching a guy in a John boat running people around to see if they could save things from their houses.

When we bought our house the insurance company wanted to pay to find out if it's in a flood plane. I said we live in the desert on a hill, if it floods my house, the house will be the last thing I am concerned about considering 99.9% of the town will be under about 100 feet of water.

5+ inches is not unusual around here. That can happen in about an hour. Thing is that we get 5" then nothing for 2 months. Need to spread it out. This year though, almost nothing. From what the weather guys keep saying, we are into year 5 of the drought. Ground moisture is almost non-existent.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

It's been sunny with highs in the mid 60's, and will be for the next couple days. I'd love to get some rain and clouds. This ain't November weather -?

ahhh, see a few days ago, we had snow, we are nicely saturated. there was just no more room at the inn for the water - as opposed to the ground being so hard and the water running off it.

oh and the rain was constant for 24-36 hrs, not a short sharp storm...

There has got to be a way to move water around from places with too much to places with too little.

the chinese have the mega piping system to take water from the yellow river up north towards beijing, because of the drought up there... doesn't help that the gobi desert is slowly moving easterly towards beijing every day...

but they have that...

Edit - here it is:

People like that need to be beat with a stick. If you are not capable of driving properly, you should not be allowed to drive.

Whenever I travel up the coast, I make it a point to drive Highway 1 between Carmel and Morro Bay in at least one direction, if not both.

^ Very nice John. I love the CA coast. Especially around Big Sur.

notice the wheel marks on the road to try to control it all, before the wind proved too strong.
