Edit: I see you already caught your foe-paw

All this talk about drinking got me to thinking about my past. I really started drinking in the Navy. Being a diver meant "work hard, play hard" and it carried over into my civilian life. I used to drink tequila, beer and really liked Irish whiskey. I actually quit completely and didn't drink for ten years. I started drinking beer again a couple of years ago. San Diego has a plethora of craft breweries and I've turned into a bit of a beer snob.

. With beer it seems the quality difference is huge.

This is true of any booze.

Been workin' from 4:30 this morning. Gonna be a long day.

Isn't 4:00 to 4:30 normal? Could I be not normal? :)
I do go to sleep early though, around 11:00, or not too long after. Still usually get near my 5 hours in.

4:30 is a bit early for me. I usually get up at 5:30, take a meeting or two from home and head into the office sometime around 8. Today I was at the office at 5:30. Still yawning.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I don't think I could survive on 5 hours sleep on a regular basis. All my life I have been a 7-8 hour minimum sleeper, any less than that and I don't function well. I can't nap either, if I try and nap for anything less than 3 or 4 hours I wake up worse off. 30-45 minutes of resting can help, but I don't fall asleep.

I worked 6pm-6am for 9 years, up until a few years ago. I got about four hours of sleep a day. I think it jacked up my nervous system. I have tremors now that I attribute to that. Really screws with my attempts to keep a camera still.

after we had alexander, nurses said "you'll be amazed at how much you can accomplish on how little sleep..." how right they were.

I do nap, and in fact just woke up from a 5 minute one. :) Anything over 15 minutes or so, is not a nap, it is a sleep, a REM sleep, from which waking up from groggy is common. After my short naps, I really feel recharged, and ready to resume taking on the day. :)

Sleeping is a terrible waste of the precious time we have on this earth. So many things I would rather be doing.

I know it's possible to function with less sleep, and having kids is a good reason to have little sleep, but I know I don't do well without good sleep. A friend of mine is going through sleepless nights with her son right now. She also always needed a good, long night's sleep and now is suffering from poor sleep. Her daughter slept a lot better than her son is. Some people seem to manage quite well, others do not.
