company holiday party yesterday....

i am feeling it today... 8-) sunglasses on so i don't have to open my eyes...

Really? Y'all still have company holiday parties with drinking? I haven't worked for a company that supported company sponsored holiday parties for over 20 years. Too much liability.

we have an italian meal at lunchtime, which starts off with lots of wine...

then when everyone leaves, a few of us go to the bar and drink more...

i would say i had 4 glasses of merlot, a couple of beers, a couple G&Ts, sangria drinks and a shot of tequila.

oh and a gatorade at 2am ;)

The dealerships I've worked at have all had Christmas parties. One of the local golf and curling clubs has a few banquet rooms and do their own catering. Everyone would get a couple of drink tickets for free drinks, then you could get whatever you wanted to buy after that. Big fancy dinner, DJ, dance floor full of drunk people. They always had some method of making sure people got home safely, either handing out cash for cabs (I liked that one), providing vouchers for cabs, or having a designated shuttle driver.
The companies aren't all that big, about 50 employees. Maybe half of them would show up, and not all with a spouse/date. Toyota and GM are owned by twin brothers, so the parties were combined. Ford and Kia are owned by the same guy and his wife, so those parties would be combined as well. Usually around 75-100 people at each party, so they were of manageable size.

I have always taken my employees and their family out for dinner and drinks at the local steakhouse.

Oh, here's something you might find amusing, especially Mel and other folks into car repair:

My daughter was going to bring a bunch of "Santa gifts" over the other night since her family is going to be at my place for Christmas Eve and Christmas. Then she called and said her battery was dead, and would get a jump and get it replaced on her way over. Called an hour later and said she was at Pep Boys, got the new battery, but couldn't get the car into reverse, and she'd be over later. Well, after another couple hours, she said they bypassed the shifter and now she could get it home but would have to take it to the dealer the next day.

She texted me yesterday from the Hyundai dealer: Apparently, the morons at Pep Boys had initially put her battery in backwards (switched the + and -) blew a bunch of fuses, and it kept the car from being able to shift into reverse.

Remind me never to go there. How basic is it to hook up the battery terminals correctly?!

I imagine, at a minimum, she'll need a new alternator. I hate to think of what else might have been jacked up.

Dang :(

Batteries connected backwards happens a lot from a local tire chain.

Oooooo not good!!

Some people are just naturally talented at screwing things up. Hopefully it's just a bunch of fuses and nothing worse.

When our Walmart opened their standalone location they advertised $19 oil changes. I was working at a nearby GM dealership and we suddenly got flooded with weird problems after people cheaped out and went there for work. One person brought their Cavalier in complaining that the speedometer quit working after the oil change. Dumbnuts had disconnected the vehicle speed sensor for some reason. Other people would show up wanting just the oil filter replaced. Had been there and they didn't have the right filter, so they just changed the oil.

We had a long run of stripped out drain plug threads when the local walmart opened their lube center.

Doesn't matter where I go I run into that problem. Drives me nuts!! At Ford the lube kid in the main shop would strip everything, I would get it the next time around and have to deal with it. Or people would over tighten them and flatten the threads so it was really hard to get out the next time.

Long long time ago I brought my VW bug in for an oil change at the VW dealership. They had either forgotten to tighten the oil drain plug or had forgotten to re-install it. In either case the plug was gone as was the oil. The engine seized while driving down I80 out in the middle of no where.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.
