Interesting info. Not what I expected. We have the 70-300L Love it so much. It's incredibly sharp and decently fast AF (better than I expected for the 5.6 in lower light). I was wondering if we should move to the 100-400. Think I'll wait a while before making any decisions. Especially at the price. Thanks for your opinion.

My son has the 70-300L too and he participated in the comparison tests with me. He prefers his 70-300L, but feels that the rented lens was a poor copy and possibly not a good representative example of the new lens. The lens rental folks are going to check it when they get it back and let me know. Stayed tuned...

OOC did you test it on more than one camera? I only ask because we have one lens that works great on Dan's 7D and terrible on my 6D.

IQ wise it's excellent. There are a few things I don't like. One I can work around (flash sync speed...I can over ride it on the flash but for some reason canon limited it on the 6D) and and shutter speed isn't as high as the other cameras. I can't remember what it tops out at but it's not fast enough if you want to use a 1.4 or less on a bright day. Frustrates me to no end. Otherwise it's great. I shot a wedding with it as my only body (I wasn't intending on shooting a wedding but...you know how it goes).

High iso is so easy to use in bad situations. This was literally shot during a west coast typhoon (we even lost power, town flooded...it was DARK)

Bride and father...incredibly dark barn. iso 2500 f1.4 (sigma 35 art lens)

It was tested on four cameras, a 5D MkII, 5DMkIII, 7D, and 1d MkIV. Each required slightly different Micro Adjustments, with a range of +8 to -3.

Thanks Kody. Jonathan is 6 but he's off the charts tall for his age (it's his viking ancestors on his father's side lol). Daniel is 5 in June and Benji is 1+
