This time I won't be staining it, I will be using a torch to burn the top.

This was my first one, which will go to my wifey.

A Brit might say you're going to run through an awful lot of batteries.

Thawed out a roast and fired up the crockpot. Been smelling roasting roast all afternoon, driving the kitty to insanity. Now it's cooked and I am happily munching on a roast beef sandwich. :) Forget making anything else for dinner, I just want a good sammich!

I love roast beef sandwiches made from a pot roast. Heavy on the mustard.

Very true, what do they call an acetylene torch over there?

I don't know, but they probably spell it funny.

Does a crock pot get hot enough to really roast the beef? I would think that the temp is too low so you have to cook it much longer.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Technically, I guess you wouldn't consider it "roasting." But my wife puts one in the crockpot with taters and carrots and cooks it for about 6 hours... maybe more. Falls apart.

Would the tater tots be all soggy?

Who said anything about tots? We use fully post-pubescent adult taters.

I guess 'roast' is not really the right term. Slow cooked till it's done.

I remember my Mom used a pressure cooker for roasts when I was a kid, and later my wife did too for many years. I used to love not only the smell, but the sound of that little thing on top dancing around as steam came out. Good times.

I love pressure cookers. I haven't used one in a very long time as I am really not sure on cooking times. Not exactly easy to just lift the lid and check to see if the item is cooked. Mom would do a whole pot of potatoes in a rather short time. My brother always loved them pressure cooked as they took on a different taste - probably from the aluminum pot.
I like the weight too, sounds like a steam engine.
