Everyone frozen solid??

Volleyball on Thursday night showed me how bad of shape I am in. Definitely not ready to go skiing yet! Tonight I'm trying bowling, I figure it's probably the least impact-ful way to get out and do something slightly physical. And a girls night out is always a welcome activity!

Not me, I'm staying inside post processing pictures for an order in between kneading the dough for sour dough bread. Have fun knocking down pins.

Cold, but not as cold as earlier in the week.

How can folks in the East and the North possibly dress for such cold? Out here, we don't have the wardrobe for it. Do you wear several pairs of socks when you go outside?

We do have a winter wardrobe, typically just heavier items. Also I avoid being outside any longer than I have to be.

I'm not as far North as many here but we do get in to the single digits often during the winter.

I wear jeans a t-shirt and usually a sweat shirt when going outside. If I'm out for a prolonged period I'll possibly wear a hat too. I'm good this way down to about 5°F with little windchill. I usually keep a coat somewhere in the back of my vehicle just in case.

Carhartt, Tough Duck, etc. Clothes made for cold weather. Snowpants, winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves, warm boots, etc.

You get something like this:

good down to -40. but then you wear a nice thick fleece underneath etc. you can stay toasty warm.

Harley's rooting for the Panthers, even if a panther is just a big cat.

Well insulated boots and if I'm going to be out for any length of time some wool or wool blend socks. For long times outside it is best to layer clothing.

When I go to work I have a long winter coat, gloves, scarf and hat, generally wear pants and my normal socks with boots. I carry my shoes to change into after I'm in my office.

Here's a bunch of us dressed for tobogganing.

Me dressed for skiing. (I have no idea why this picture keeps posting upside down)

Basically we just add layers of clothing designed for cold weather use. Snow pants are well lined, windproof, and fairly waterproof. My snowmobile pants are rated for -40 use. Winter jackets are the same way. The orange ski jacket that I'm wearing has a fleece jacket on the inside and an outer shell that is wind and waterproof. My balaclava is microfibre. Warm, yet thin enough to fit under my helmet.

Columbia Sportswear has a lot of information about the technology they use in their sports clothing. Their website is quite informative. I have a pair of their snow pants with the Omni-Heat Thermal Reflective technology and it works really well.
