So when this thread finally hits 10k posts, are we going to rename it to: "RRTP, D&D Dummies Edition(25)" :p

It fits...

How can folks in the East and the North possibly dress for such cold? Out here, we don't have the wardrobe for it. Do you wear several pairs of socks when you go outside?

That's one of the things about living in Southern California. There's so much cool cold weather clothing that we can wear maybe one day a year, if that.

You get something like this:

http://www.llbean.com …-challenger-3-in-1-jacket (external link)

good down to -40. but then you wear a nice thick fleece underneath etc. you can stay toasty warm.

I've got a jacket like this that I haven't worn in five years...

For winter wear, I never wear any one heavy winter item, I much prefer to layer. In fact, I just gave away a big puffy down-filled coat good to -40°, because I could not wear it unless just sitting around. A fleece and a light winter coat (along with a t-shirt and long sleeved shirt under) will see me through the coldest days, as long as I am active. I rarely wear a toque either, preferring a cap and pulling up a hood if windy. For footwear, I use an insulated hiking boot, nice and light, and warm.

I used to wear Carhart and other insulated duck canvas gear, along with heavy snow pacs. They do keep you warm, but are real heavy and cause me to tire quicker, all while sweating a lot. I hate sweating in the cold, as the resultant is worse than being on the cool side and dry.

Harley's rooting for the Panthers, even if a panther is just a big cat.

Harley made a poor choice. :-D:-D

Went for an hour drive and met a friend for photographs this morning. And I forgot my camera battery. :( I guess there's a first time for everything.

Harley just doesn't like Richard Sherman.

Today he wants Dallas to lose. He roots for anyone who plays against Dallas. Although he'd lick every one of their cheerleaders from head to toe if he got the chance.

I find that my camera works much better with batteries.

I love Sherman, then again I'm a Seattle fan. :)

I'm undecided who to root for this afternoon. I don't know which will be better. Beating Packers again or getting revenge on the Cowboys for the regular season..

hehehe, many years ago a friend drove to my place as we were going on a mountain bike ride - he forgot the front wheel. Next week at work I made him a checklist where every third item was front wheel.

I know your friend's pain. lol

When I was putting the battery in the charger I told myself like three times, now don't forget this. I need to buy some spares.

While I like some of the local craft IPA's, I prefer good Pinot Noir from the Carneros appellation - nothing fancy or expensive. The wine I usually buy is about $15 a bottle.

JJ - because of my not so great experience with the first copy of the new 100-400, the lens rental folks were kind enough to send me a second copy to try for a few days. The 2nd copy is much sharper. The improvement in sharpness is a real step up from my old version 1 100-400.

I still dislike the new foot/collar design. You have to tighten the heck out of the little thumb wheel in the foot and even then there is a very tiny bit of play in it. I don't understand why they changed it.

Did you end up posting any samples from the 2nd copy? I remember having a nikon lens that had a collar that would never completely tighten. So frustrating.

I enjoy Carneros PN as well as some from the RRV. My favorite's are from Willamette Valley though, but I would think that :) But for Cabernet, CA's peaks (Atlas, Stags, Mt. Veeder etc) are my favorite.

Time for you to move to Australia then, Jim:

I got an absolutely excellent case (6) of Aussie Syrah. I currently write reviews for a wine blog for a food store discount chain. They got this Colonial Estate 2004 Emigre in at their last sale. $4.99 (instead of the $69-$109) a bottle. It's a wonderful wine. My first happy experience with AU wines. https://grossoutwine.wordpress.com …emigre-shiraz-blend-4-99/ (external link)

I've had some great Aussie wines experiences and a few not so good expereinces - usually the next day. :p

I have 4 bottles of a wine in the fridge that Aaron made last year in his Chemistry class. Drinkable - just

We have lots of great wines. A trip through the Barossa Valley usually means you have to stay the night because you aren't in any fit state to drive haha
