Depending on the configuration you set it'll either shoot and record the full 24 mm x 36 mm sensor area, a 19 x 27 mm area from the center (1.3x crop - same size as the 1D series sensors) or a 15 x 22.5 mm area from the center for the 1.6x crop. Nikon's offered that (well, FF or 1.5x crop) in a couple of their models. Jon

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Now if they gave you a speed boost with the smaller image files (like Nikon does . . .) they might sell me on it now, rather than later. Jon

Maybe we should start being "proactive" - whenever Canon announces a new body/lens/flash/whatever, just post a quote of a typical pre-acquisition post about generation x-1! :{)# Jon

I guess that would be cool, especially for those using the limit of their long lenses for birding or wildlife, who end up cropping quite a bit. It would come in handy with my 150-600. For those who crop their macro shots to get closer closer-up, too. Moose

One of the reasons I have not sold the 7D is because of the 17-55. That lens rocks. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

But it's good to have a back-up body, or one for the wife/SO to use if you're both shooting at the same time. Moose
