I tried that with a cat once. Didn't end well for me.

Well I would imagine not.... sounds terrifying.

My wife and I went to movie Saturday night and bought a large popcorn and large Coke. . . . the kid behind the counter only charged me $8.90. . . . I looked at the receipt and noticed I had gotten a senior discount.

"Kids" who work as cashiers are no good at judging ages of customers who are 30 years older than themselves or so. Then there's the first time you get a friendly mail piece from the AARP . . .

solepatch wrote in post #17434301 (external link)
Saving this away for the first time anyone questions the ID. We also get a discount at a lot of local food places, and no cover a couple of local bars. I'm gunna have to milk that thing for all its worth.

:-(

I once had a boyfriend who habitually used his student ID to get discounts long after it had expired. He'd been a graduate student, but by the time I knew him, he was working. Later, it turned out that he had other issues involving honesty.

If schools would print the year on those cards, abusing the system would be harder.

It could be that the age for "seniors" is 55 there, and we hadn't noticed before. It varies from place to place. I can get the discount at IHOP, but not at the Nevada state parks (65 :-( )

I think that 65 is the standard around here.

I just checked the age policy for the theater we went to... 62 for seniors. That seems kinda random. It's 60 at Regal theaters. Nevada State Parks.. 65, but the National/Federal Senior Pass is 62.

Probably has something to do with some kind of market research saying that is the age where they start seeing a decrease in theater attendance. Just a guess though.

I'd guess it's more arbitrary than that. Sixtysomethings may even go to theaters more than younger people do, having grown up without VCRs and all, when you had to go out to see a film; the habit stays. One theater we go to is near enough to a big retirement complex that we often see small parties of old people attending.

Amtrak gives a senior discount at 62. At local stores, the threshold varies, and what's most common is the absence of a discount.

I can also see the logic here as well. It may just be an arbitrary number that someone came up with.

Some days I feel older than others. I think they should take that into account. ;-)a

:-( shreds ID. "Goodbye $5 movie tickets, you will be missed."

Time to sign up for a AARP card. Gets you discounts as well. ;)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Just over here counting down the days... a 1... a 2...

That's a log of snow, and everyone here in Lexington is complaining about the 4 inches we got last night and the 3 were supposed to get today.

It's cool outside (39F/4C) but there is sun. I am happy with that.
