I do not like photo editing. I really do not like trying to correct white balance.

With bright blue skies, blue-green water, snow, ice, and brilliant sunlight, all my pictures have a blue tinge.

What steps would you take to correct this blue tinge? Had the camera set to Auto WB, and it was fine for any pictures that weren't all white and blue. I have LR 3 (which I never edit with) and CS5. Been using the white point set dropper in the curves adjustment, but it's not working well with this one.

If you don't like to shoot raw and adjust in post, don't rely on the AWB to be able to figure out how to deal with that situation. Keep a gray or white card in your bag and set the WB shooting the card first.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Just adjust the WB an tint by hand until it looks like you want.

*edit* I had the WB set to daylight.

I always shoot in RAW and every picture gets run through CS5. I am not great with editing the technical stuff.
I chimped all day. Every picture shows up with perfect WB on the camera's screen.

Tough to adjust without blowing out the whites.

That's the biggest problem. I know that some will have to be blown out to make it look like it actually was, there were a lot of reflections off of the snow. I'd like to have the pictures show that it was a nice day.

It is much easier to adjust it in LR....just use the temperature and tint sliders to get the whites where they need to be....doesn't try to blow it out the way PS does.

Melody, I'm sure you know it's normal for shadows in snow to be bluish. In your shot, the snow has a red/purple cast and the icicles and falling water have a green cast. No one setting for the whole frame is going to even those out, except B&W. All I have is the program that came with the Mac, but I gave it a try. Decreasing the saturation would make the colors seem more alike.

Hi all, hope you are OK with all of the cold over there.

Consider sunny Brisbane as an alternative... 4/5 perfect days is not bad for the first week of Autumn.

Still too hot for my liking, especially the nighttime temps. I like it much cooler for sleeping.

I guess I always tied the seasons to the equinoxes.

And the solstices to give you a 4-way split. ;)
But like you, I always assumed it to be this way too.

Thanks. Let me try something else. I'll wait to see what Melody thinks of these.

Moved midtone slider to left this time, increased sharpening.
