And the solstices to give you a 4-way split. ;)
But like you, I always assumed it to be this way too.

On the news last night they actually talked about this. There are different definitions of spring. Most use the astronomical definitions which are the equinoxes an solstice, but there is also a meteorological definition which varies from place to place depending on weather patterns. Here in Dallas meteorological spring starts on March 1st but it's late this year. In Chicago March 1st is still the dead of winter.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I guess we all do that to some degree. Even though winter isn't officially until Dec 22, we start saying it is wintertime well over a month before that. It would be tough to really think it is spring here March 22, as we still have lots of snow yet, and the ground is still frozen.

Thanks. Let me try something else. I'll wait to see what Melody thinks of these.

Moved midtone slider to left this time, increased sharpening.

This is about what I've been able to come up with. CS5 was just getting frustrating so I tried it with Lightroom. Sometimes I think I just need simple tools or else I just go in circles. I think this one might just end up B&W.
The whole deal of having this blue tint is frustrating. The in-camera review doesn't show the tint, maybe just a hint in one or two pics, and as far as I can tell the histogram didn't give any warning either. I know snow is difficult to photograph, but I've never had this much trouble.

One of the other things that leads to the blue tint is the reflection of the sky. Not having clouds is going to give you a blue cast to light colored objects. Did you try just raising the temperature in LR? That seemed to do a pretty decent job, without blowing out the highlights.

Yeah, that gave decent results, but just didn't get where it should be. Trying to get the snow to look right takes all the colour out of the water.
I knew that shooting snow, ice, and water in bright sunlight would be difficult, but I was expecting exposure problems, not weird tints. I used a CPL all the time, and added a ND6 when I wanted to bring the shutter speed down.

It (the weather) has been crazy everywhere. Overall we've had a relatively warm winter. Normally by now we would have gone through 3 to 4 deliveries of propane for winter heating, but so far we've only had two deliveries, and only used about 20% of the 2nd delivery.

So some of my pictures have that nasty tint to them, and other pictures turned out amazing. This one is untouched, just converted from RAW.

QUOTED IMAGE

WB looks nice on my iPad and this monitor. Cool shot.

Speaking of cool shots; here's one you don't see every day: weasel riding a woodpecker.
