I've sold a few things but always locally. I have been toying with the idea to upgrade my 100-400 to the new lens as I use the 100-400mkI quite a bit but am still waiting for a bit more comparison data before jumping. From the early reviews it looks as if the mkII is a tad better in the center and more than a tad in the corners but I'm not sure it's worth upgrading for just a tad.

I've also been tossing around the idea of selling off all my Canon gear and switching but that's just such a pain in the a$$. I have been shooting a 800e for a while now and really like the images it created. If the 810 betters it, wow.. Tempting, but still a major pain.

While I would love something in a smaller size, I agree that it would be a real pain to completely change over. Most of the time I am just fine with the size of my cameras, but there are a few times when just out and about smaller would be better.

As much as there has been others that have complained about the IQ of the original 100-400, my copy seems to be quite sharp. I have used the 1.4 TC with taped contacts, but that is a real pain. The slow auto-focus has frustrated me a lot of times too. As far as the push-pull goes, I quite like it, or at least am very used to it.

$200 for 10 days does not seem too bad, though for 2 weeks, and in Canadian Pesos, that might be fairly costly. Worst case, I will just take the 5D II, and it will do good, as it always has. For video, I have considered getting a small dedicated video camera too. That would be much cheaper than upgrading, that's for sure. :)

I'm also looking for something smaller I can tuck in my pocket when out and about. One of the super-zooms would be nice. Looking at the Nikon P600 as I have read that it's IQ is really good for that class camera and a 1440mm equivilent lens is just crazy.

My smaller camera is a Fujifilm X-100s. Its a 1.6 crop sensor with a fixed 35mm equivalent lens and is a great little camera. Its always with me when I'm not carrying one of my Canons.

You'll need a CCN permit.

If you want to see what a 1DX with the EF 600 can do, here's a link to that dragster crash over the weekend: http://markjrebilas.com/blog/?p=21971#more-21971 (external link)

I've been thinking about selling off some of my older gear items but I I doubt I'd be able to get very much for them. They'd be of value only to someone just starting out in photography who wanted to make a minimal investment in gear.

My 100-400 push pull was very sharp. I wanted the version 2 but found the resale market on the original very disappointing. I ended up selling it to my son for a price he couldn't pass up and bought the new one. It's lighter. It's very sharp. Colors seem more true. AI Servo mode works much better for me than the old one. It focuses to about 3 feet. At 400 I can get really nice flower shots from that distance. I'm very happy with it.

Sharper than the old one? I really don't need the IS and at 400 I almost always MF so those improvements don't tempt me. Image quality does though.

I very often wish for a small, capable camera that can be carried in a pocket. I wouldn't trade away the capabilities of a full sized camera, but they just are not convenient. My iPhone is great for a lot of situations, but fails miserably in others. I'd like something that has RAW, manual controls, good quality, and be waterproof.
