I always owe. I plan it so that we owe the max just before the penalties kick in. Sometimes it takes quite a bit of planing as my wife is self employed and we have to pay quarterly. I am totally not a believer in refunds. Refund = poor planing in my book.

Had to go in and get my taxes done today. Last year we actually got back $23.

So anyway, I called my wife at work a couple hours later and said, "Guess how much we owe this year."

Her: "Mmm... $500?"
Me: "Add a zero and some more."
Her: "WHAT? How much?"
Me: "6,543." (Which I had to repeat more than once)
Her: "WHY SO MUCH?"
Me: "I dunno, that's just what it came up to. Invest income I guess."
Her: "But why so much more than LAST year?"

Me: "Maybe because we didn't pay it on APRIL FOOLS DAY last year! Haha."

She said I wasn't a bit funny

I may get an ass-whuppin when she gets home.

Still, that is good!!

Actually, I would love to see payroll deductions eliminated. I believe everyone needs to clearly know how much they pay and have to write out that check to the gov. every quarter just like the self employed have to. Nothing like a cold slap in the face every three months to make you a little more fiscally responsible.

If your proposal were enacted, the IRS would spend all its time trying to collect from people who had turned away when that cold slap approached.

Agreed. Never pay taxes any sooner than required.

Who, me? I don't set the rates. I meant that without payroll deductions the IRS would cost more to run because it'd be chasing after nonpayers all the time, and guess who'd pay for that.

Well, I tried something new today.

I've got a nice little gas-driven power washer that I was cleaning the backyard with... All the decking, the patio, walkways, even the astro turf. I was about halfway done when the motor quit; I figured it had just ran out of gas. Nope. I had pulled that mother right into the pool.

F#%* me!

Bummer. Small gas engines and pools don't play well together. -?

Just got done with my ortho doctor and he grounded me for 3 more weeks. I'm going stir crazy at home. Tried to take a nice long hike this morning by myself. It didn't go well after one of my shoelaces came loose. Its hella difficult to tie shoelaces one handed. :-x

Clapping's difficult, too.

What did you do to your hand?

My rotator cuff was completely torn through. Its fixed and healing, but the arm is immobilized in a special sling with a bumper pad that keeps it away from the body at an angle for best healing and lowest stress to the repair. Imagine your wrist near the heel of your right hand glued to your waist about 2 inches to the right of your navel... :p

In the overall scheme of things in life its not a big deal, but *currently* its just making me nuts.

So far I've binge watched 300+ gigabytes of movies and TV shows on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Guess it isn't one of those fancy new engines that runs on water.

I learned how to do that! Between finger injuries and a dislocated shoulder, I had lots of one handed practice in my early years of high school. It's awkward, but it can be done. I can also, slowly, print with my left hand.

I did have an advantage though, my uncle is an amputee and I've grown up watching him do everything one handed.

Well at least it wasn't an electric pump. Gas engines can be dried out and put back to work. Cleaning the pool may be a bit more annoying.
