Ick. Just had to shake down a module of about 80 inmates. Nothing worse than having to toss inmate stuff around. I need a bath. If I could have held my breath the whole time, I would've.

Find any contraband?

Silly me, thought expat Brits always remained British forever!! Had an uncle move to Ottawa, never lost his Scottishness, although took Canadian citizenship.

They probably do, but all 8 of my great-grandparents are Canadian born. I have lots of British heritage in my blood, but it goes a ways back.

maybe those canadians have too much maple syrup between the ears!!!

That's what makes us so darn sweet.

I still have all my Canon gear when I need to get serious. I need something smaller to keep with me all the time. The P900 is a bit on the larger end but it's way way smaller than my 7D and 100-400 with a t-con attached.

I here you. We have a Canon S95 that takes some decent photos, but it is really a pain to shoot with. I hate pressing the shutter button, and waiting what seems like, and eternity, for it to actually activate. I would love to have the quality of my Canon gear, but yet a smaller size. As mentioned a while back I was looking at the Sony A7 stuff, but don't really see that as a viable option.

I also fear, if I get a good enough smaller for camera, I will get even lazier, and never get the big guns out.

Y'all have been around here for a long time! Any idea when folks immigrated?

This has got me curious... pulled out the family bible that has a bunch of records stored in it.... just found a letter from my great grandmother, written in 1957, giving details about her marriage and my grandmother's birth. It has a address.... I'm off to spend some time with Google Earth!

My daughter was going to look into following the ancestry thing. Not sure how far she has gotten with that. I know all my great-grandparents were born not too long after Canada became a country in 1867.

It would be cool to see if you can find that address.

Too bad, but you can pretty much expect that. Where was this?

I'll have to start scanning some of these documents.

The letter, written to a notary, is as follows:

June 10th, 1957
To Whom it may concern.
This is to certify that I, Florence Pettigrew Day and Robert Thompson Day were married on June 21st, 1899 at 1016 Bedford Av. in Brooklyn, N.Y. U.S.A. and that on Dec. 9th, 1901 a daughter was born to us at the same address whom we named Florence Irene Day.
Signed Florence P. Day, 93-18 210th Place, Queens Village 28, N.Y. U.S.A.

I love old documents and pictures! My Mom's side of the family kept a lot of old stuff like that, I have photo albums from my Grandparents.

I was but 3 months in utero when she wrote this.

It really is cool to look back, and try to get an idea, what things were like back when your ancestors were young.

Yeah, I love going back through all the records, but it can be rather sad. Just read the three page write up that my mom did for my grandfather's memorial service. He had some rough times.

I love having pictures, notes, mementos, and loads of documents. I have my grandfather's diploma from Pratt Institute.

It is that. One of my cousins has been tracing our family roots way back. She currently working on one line in the early middle ages. One line she traced back to a distant relative who became ill and died in jail. According to the records, he had stolen a black sheep.

Sometimes you discover things better left buried in the past.

The Bicknell line has been traced way back. There is some arguing about one connection, I'm not sure what side to believe. The long-held connection would take the family roots back to the first century. It's some sort of marriage/property transition thing that I don't really understand.
