Fingers crossed Mel. Hoep it goes well for you and the jerk manager is gone.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

That manager is long gone. They caught him stealing and sent him packing. The current manager, Jason, was working part time/summers washing cars when I was there. He was going to school for business management or something like that. We got along great then, and are still friendly now. Hopefully we'd still get along great. He's the one that called me back for the two weeks.

The jerk manager still is in the area, but doing other work. While I was at Ford he showed up for service. I didn't particularly want to talk to him, but he seemed to want to be friendly. He started "reminiscing" about "he hired me at Toyota". I bit my tongue and didn't remind him of how it really happened.

Shoulda bit his tongue, and then kicked his ass. Okay maybe not.
Good luck landing the job! Getting to work in a brand new shop sounds nice, especially if you have a decent boss.

The interview went well. Jason actually had a list of questions to ask me and wrote down all my answers. He had good questions too - "what can you bring to this business", "list three of your strengths", "what is your biggest weakness", "what do you expect from us"? Most of the interviews I've had have been seemly awkward for the interviewer, like they're not sure of what to ask. It helps that Jason and I have worked together before.

Hopefully I get a call from him with good news!!

I've worked in brand new shops and 50 year old shops. New ones are always much nicer. Bright, clean, organized, safe, functional, and air conditioned.

Hoping you get good news. :)

I never really asked those kinds of questions. Always started with the typical prior jobs, education, trainings etc. Then always went to scenario questions, one based on real experiences. If all that went well, then each other employee got to spend a few minutes chatting with them. After all they have to work with the person.

I think I've decided I am going to try tending bar for a while. I love alcohol and socializing with people. lol

We went over most of my past jobs, being that Jason already knew me we didn't have to spend too much time on them. Education is straight forward. To have the scenario questions work well the manager would have to know the work.

Bar tending could be fun. Especially if you get in a great place.

Evening Tuppers.

I hate interviews. It's not so much the interview itself, more the fact that I re-live it over and over again for the next couple of days, torturing myself with what I could/should have said. That said, I've been lucky in that only one interview I've had didn't yield a positive result.

Hope you get the job Melody.

I am the king of witty comebacks. Unfortunately they come days or sometimes weeks after the event.

Being quick with witty comebacks can get a person into trouble. Sometimes the line is out of the mouth before the brain figures out whether the line should be said or not.

Yeah. I think that's why people don't like me.

I've had a couple humorous experiences with job interviews...

First (I might have shared this before), I was wrapping up a college course, electronic and computer technology, I think it was in '98, and a tech team from a company came in to test and interview folks. They gave us a test with various little details, I took the test...

Well, at some point the testing staffer called me up and said "Hey, this can't be right, you got 100% on a pretty challenging test!"

Well, what could I say, I had been immersed in these fields for some time, so just shoot a smile and move on...

But a bit later he called me up and said "Hey, it's cool, I went back over things and you missed half a point! But, needless to say, you have a job if you want it!

***

Second, I passed on that job and took one in an area where I wanted to live (up here in the Pacific Northwest). After a couple years, the department I was in needed to downsize. They invited us workers to go out looking for another job rather than facing a layoff, although they told me I was "senior" in their technology group and they'd be happy to keep me...

Well, at the time I was taking a night course in software engineering taught by a software engineer at Hewlett-Packard in the town where I was living. Again I demonstrated a grasp of what he was teaching, so when I told him I was in the market for a new job he pleaded with me to apply at HP, and he would personally deliver my resumè and would vouch for me, so, I headed for the interview!

That went fine, except for one point: the guy who was interviewing me showed me a chunk of a file and asked if I could identify what the file was. I said "Well, it's a batch file from an MS DOS computer!"

The funny thing was that it was an Auto-Exec.bat file, they were the most common batch file around, I just didn't catch it! :)
