That's crap, so tired of the 'squeaky wheel gets the grease' mentality that seems proliferate today.

Yup. All our lives we were told to quit whining, that whining got you nothing. Now it seems that whining is the way to get what you want. It's like the parents that give the kids what they want just to shut them up.

Maybe I should whine to my tattoo artist this Friday when I get my next tat. Maybe he'll do it for free or cheap. :P

My kids learned at a very young age that the second they whine, whatever they wanted immediately was taken away for a very long time. So far, as teenagers, they seem to be doing pretty with not having a self entitled attitude.

Not enough people do that anymore. I don't ever remember whining and begging for things, I know that I would have whined and complained, but if we were told that we couldn't have something, that was the end of it. We would be grocery shopping and would see all the candy and chocolate, but knew better than to pester the parents for it.

Anytime I'm taking care of kids, if they fight over something, it's mine. If they whine for something, they don't get it. But I certainly won't deny kids from having anything. When I'm able to, I like to get my niece and nephew some pretty good birthday/Christmas presents, or take them somewhere to do cool things. Any presents that I do get them are usually something they need, like clothes/shoes/sports equipment. But, just buying basic shoes is boring. Elizabeth knows that her Aunt will usually buy the sparkly pink shoes.

Unfortunately, all the "everyone's a winner and there are no losers" philosophy has created a generation of self-centered individuals who want everything handed to them. It's reached ridiculous proportions in the schools, even going as far as "graduations," complete with cap and gown, from pre-school.

Yeah, no happening in this household. Gotta learn that in the real world, there are losers and winners, but learn some humility and the value of winning.

The "everyone is a winner" philosophy was just starting when my kids were small. It seemed to be pushed hard by the moms on the various kids sports teams my kids were on. Thing is all the dads and all the kids were very aware of who was winning and who was loosing. It seems to have gotten a whole lot worse.

I'm glad that my youngins are grown. I'm not sure I'd like raising them in this generation of kids. It was already getting kinda bad when my youngest two were in HS, with all their friends thinking they were entitled, and deserved everything in the world without doing anything for it.

There are so many aspects to the "everyone's a winner" mentality. Kids graduate from junior kindergarten, everyone gets a ribbon even if they came in dead last because they refused to participate, and no one fails. A friend of mine has a 12 year old boy who has practically given up on school work. She's fully willing to hold him back a year, but the teachers would never recommend it anymore. Summer school is also a very real possibility for the kid. But if the parents don't care, the kid just slides through without actually learning the whole curriculum.

Another aspect of this "it's all about me" mentality that I see developing is the all-natural, anti-vaccination movement. I could not care less about what you want to eat, but when un-vaccinated people start spreading deadly diseases around, I get annoyed. The people who cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons are then put at a much higher risk.
Locally, there is a young boy who was not vaccinated against tetanus. He stepped on a nail, parents didn't take him to be checked, and he got tetanus. He was in critical condition at last report. I cannot imagine the horrific condition the child was in. Tetanus is mega scary.

I think my Smug mug account was hacked. About 14k in files, some from hidden galleries were accessed and mostly the original files were targeted. I have no way of knowing if the files were downloaded either. Their support team said they can only track the last log in which was me. And they don't have a way to tell me where the originating ip address is coming from that is accessing the files, which I think is bs. I unlisted all the galleries, put a password on them and changed my account password. But having more than 1/2 of the files already accessed, it's probably to little to late.

Did they do any damage to the files or just access them?

A bit of everything. Forum photo's which are in an unlisted gallery. Family photo's, which are accessible if you know my smug url. And client work which includes product, architectural, and portrait.

No damage. But as they were the originals, not the thumbnails or smaller files, I take it they were scarfed.

Well, that sucks!

I know there are sites that allow "anonymous" IP addresses -- people use them to "get" things like songs and movies, stuff that would be forbidden if doing from a legitimate service provider. When you go the "anonymous" route, anyone examining things would see an "unknown" IP address.
