"THE race" is NASCAR. Daytona. Big speed, big track, big crashes. Home of "The Big One".

The race was rain delayed until 11:45 pm EST. On the very last lap, with Junior leading, as they crossed the finish line #11 spun and t-boned the #3, lifting the car up. The 3 rolled over top of the cars next to it and was launched into the fence. As the rest of the field was playing pinball, the 3 went spinning down onto the infield, on it's roof. The #2 then hit what was left of the #3, sending it spinning towards the end of pit road. The engine and transmission landed on the grass. Austin Dillon walked away.

Of the top 27 place finishers, only 3 were not involved in the crash.

It definitely was worth staying up till 3 am to watch!

Gotcha. I never have watched much car racing, so was not aware.

I prefer to watch real sports, like curling.

Lots of interesting sky shots from west of here, though it is smoke, not fog.

Smoke can make for some really dramatic sunrises and sunsets. Not real healthy, but can lead to killer photo ops.

It's a great night in small town life.

Petrolia, the town where I went to high school, is having their annual Art In The Park weekend. Victoria Park is filled with local artists of all sorts displaying their stuff, music at the bandshell all day, sales all over town, etc. Tonight is concert night. Behind the old train station turned library is the farmers market pavilion. Scott Manery & The Barnburners are the solo act tonight. They'll play for 4-5 hours without getting boring. There's picnic tables and lawn chairs all over, dancing in front of the stage, BBQs going strong, and alcohol is available. The whole place is fenced in, not just a separate beer garden. It's a full out family style event. It's 73F with a light breeze.

Colour me content.

I don't mind the places that ID for anyone that looks under 25, but the legal drinking age here is 19. I'd like to think that I look like I've graduated high school.

We have something similar in downtown Vancouver, free concerts in a nice park two days a week through the summer, wide open (though the beer garden is fenced in)! I was involved one year as an "official" photographer, a nice way to spend summer afternoons!

Hmm, looks like it'll be a 19 hour drive.

I guess I'll be fashionably late...

Well they're playing another 7 times in the area between now and the middle of November. It doesn't matter how often they play around here, they always have a full house. They started at 6:30 tonight and finally quit playing at 11:40. Only took one break.

The barn dance at the Wyoming fair will be quite the party.
