Only 10 degrees C and rain here in Scotland today. We arrived nearly 2 weeks ago and has rained every day

Main reason I left Scotland for Spain.

You know those really hot, humid summer days where there isn't the slightest stirring in the air and you just know that there's a vicious storm waiting to drop down on you? Well, today was one of those days. We were cutting grass in town when I noticed some interesting clouds rolling in. I took some pictures with my iPhone, a short video, and a panorama shot. The panorama looked the best. I showed it to the boss and he said to send it to Ontario Tornado Watch's Facebook page. So I did. Folks saw that I had posted it, some friends shared it, and I got a bunch of likes and comments. And then OTW posted it onto their page and everything went nuts. It's up to over 1100 likes, almost 800 shares, and nearly 350 comments already. Then one of the local radio stations saw the post and shared it on their page, which has started another round of crazy.

I'd have lots of pictures if I put up trail cameras around here. The squirrels think they own the place. Cats, coons, possums, skunks, muskrats, foxes, coyotes, deer, and who knows what else are always nearby. No armadillos though.

Since moving here, I've seen possums, rabbits, squirrels, parrots, skunks and now raccoons. And we're 3 miles as the crow flies from downtown San Diego...

It actually didn't rain where we were, it hit a mile south of us. Wind picked up and the temp dropped, but that location stayed dry. The next two that we were supposed to do got wet so we did them today.

We have had no rain what so ever for 65 days now. We will get a pop up shower from time to time but they are extremely local. One neighborhood can get 2~3 inches in 1/2 an hour and block away, nothing.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Jon would probably know this. Would the Sekonic L-358 still be the wise investment in light meters, or would it be beneficial to go newer (and more expensive) to get the L-478. This is mostly for portrait use. Probably never for landscape.

I am still sorting thru all of the images I took of the fire over the past couple of weeks. For a while there, the fire was burning like crazy, and there was so much to shoot all around the area here where I live. They finally have it somewhat contained, and there aren't really any good photo opportunities left.......so now I get a chance to download what I shot and look for the keepers!

Anyway, here's one I thought some of you may find interesting. A PUD worker extinguishing flames on a burning power line pole before it falls apart even more. There is stuff like this all over the county - downed power poles all over the place, hundreds of them. Not to mention a quarter million acres of forest and sagebrush burned to a blackened crisp. With super-major wild fires two years in a row, our local landscape is drastically changing.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

You want these for flash, or for continuous lighting? If for continuous lighting, it really doesn't matter all that much.

What do you use for flash triggers? If you're not using PocketWizards of any kind, then you don't need the 478DR or the 358 with the (optional) PW trigger module. You can use the 358, or the 478D, in either corded or cordless mode with fixed-output flashes. If you're using the old stock PocketWizard triggers and want the meter to trigger your flashes when taking a reading, either the 358 (with PW trigger) or the 478DR will work. If you're using the PW TT1/TT5 triggers and want radio triggering of your flash, get the 478DR.

If you're using multiple cameras, under whatever lighting, the 478 (either the D or DR) can profile all of your cameras to customize the exposure for whichever one you're using (taking account sensor response across its dynamic range), but unless you do a lot of shooting where that would be important, you probably don't need that feature. It also requires a color control card like a PassPort color checker (list price around $100, sometimes offered as a freebie with purchase).

I've used both; unless you meet one of the special exceptions above, either will do. The 478 takes the (cheaper and more readily available) AAA cells; the 358 uses CR123s.
