We seem to have finally kicked the butts of our local fires! They are up to just over 439,000 acres, but it appears that they will never reach the half-million mark.

Chelan Complex Fire: 98% contained
Okanogan Complex Fire: 95% contained
Tunk Block/North Star Fire: 85% contained

There are still about a thousand firefighters in the area, but they are mostly doing mop-up duty.
While it is a relief to have the threat be over, I honestly miss all of the excitement!

Here's another shot from last month:

It looks like Southern California has been getting a bunch of rain, but I haven't heard about it moving north...

We got 1.33 inches right in the middle of the city here.

I'm renting a house in San Diego for a week at the end of October. I hope the whole state isn't burned up by then.

Wheat are you going to be doing in SD? Maybe we can get together...

That's good news. The Valley Fire here is about 40% contained at 73,700 acres. They have over 4,000 fire fighters on it now. The weather for the next 4 days will be in the mid to high 90's. Three confirmed fatalities now and more than a half dozen scumbag looters in jail.

How about some old school firefighting circa 1979. Taken with a Canon A1 and 50mm f/1.4

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

4,000 - WOW! I bet some of them were on this fire we have here. I wondered where they all went!

I was surprised by that 4,000 number too, but with this warm weather, this fire has the potential to take off again and threaten 4 small nearby towns.

Thanks. I'll have to ask my boss/social coordinator; it's my birthday, so she may have some secret plans. We're arriving Oct 26th, and probably leaving the 31st. The second half of the week we've got my two daughters and their families coming in. First half of the week I think we're just driving up and down the coast, chillaxin', maybe hitting the zoo (we did the Safari Park last time). I'll PM you when I know more.

Seeing John's wife, Heather, works there, she makes a great tour guide. We took advantage of that. :)

Just wasted 3 hours fixing my wife's iPhone. It got totally hung up with the IOS 9 "upgrade" and of course she hasn't backed it up since November 2014. Finally had to do a factory reset of the iphone grrrrr.

Any idea what happened? I tend to wait a week or so before I upgrade to the new iOS. Most of the time they need to fix a bug or two.

Apparently a known bug. DO NOT UPGRADE until 9.1 (or something better than 9.0) is out.

Also back up your device NOW. :-D

Okay Dan I get that, but its her phone, not mine. Would you like to pass on to her what you suggested? :p

I have an android phone. The Apple clown(s) who issued this upgrade clearly never tested it on the iPhone 5s. Apparently they only believe one previous generation of their hardware is worthy of quality software support.
