40 teenagers?

are they couch potatoes, or are they sporty types? the sporty types will devour anything like locusts!

It's a mix. I'm aiming for making more than enough, then I'll have pie too. And maybe give some away to whoever is the best at begging.

How much pie do you think 40 teenagers would eat? I'm providing dessert for a youth event at the church Sunday night. They're estimating having about 40 kids, but it may be more, or may be less.

Pumpkin is cooking down right now, so the house smells great!

7 pies would give them each a big piece, and some may not want any. 6 would give them smaller pieces, but with seconds for a few who would want some.

At what size of pie? I usually use 9 and 10 inch pie plates, but I'm not using my glass ones for this, I'm using tin ones instead. They say they are 9" plates, but they are a fair bit smaller than my glass one. I had guessed at doing 8 pies.
I wish we had firm numbers, but I have the luck of doing the first night.

Always bring an extra. You can eat it later if it goes unused. :)

The standard count is six pieces to a pie. Whether the pan is 8" or 9", a 1/6 wedge looks right. If you use two sizes of pans, though, adjust the cuts so all the servings are about equal. Maybe 7 pieces from the larger pans.

That's kinda what I was thinking.

I always hope to have leftovers. I need pie, Dad needs pie, I need more pie. And if I have a bunch of leftovers, then a simple photo posted to Facebook will get me lots of friends! I already have people telling me that they will take care of any extra that I have. Main reason for using disposable pie plates!

Discovered one thing I do not like about these plates though, when I went to pick up the pumpkin pie to put it in the oven I encountered a whole lot of flex in the plate. :-|

Pumpkin pies are cooling, peach pie is in the oven, apples are ready to be peeled and sliced.

These pie plates definitely are not the proper size, none of the recipes fit in them right.

Using those tin ones, I would definitely do 6 pieces per pie.

I can almost smell that out here. Man, I haven't had peach pie in ages. Love it.

Two pumpkin pies, one peach, and one apple pie are done. Second apple pie is in the oven, along with the crumb crust for the key lime. I have enough pumpkin left for another large pie, and peaches for a small pie. With these odd pie plate sizes I'm having a hard time getting the amounts right.

I figure I'm just going to go for overkill. Leftovers will be easier to deal with than teenagers that didn't get enough pie. That way I'll be able to enjoy eating it too!

I apologize for bringing something up from almost a week ago, but I just returned from a trip, got online for the first time in a week, and this is the first post I saw:

Wildlife and stuff pictures are fun for the photographer but of no value to others I think. They are pretty and all, but my dad had hundreds of these type of images and no one is interested in them now.

JJ, I am a bit surprised by your opinion concerning wildlife photos. When I go to a news stand, I see lots of magazines that have a lot of wildlife photos in them. I also sell photos of wildlife - it is a big chunk of my livelihood.

If people weren't interested in wildlife photos, then how is it that I am able to sell so many of them? And why is it that so many magazines, calendars, books, etc, have wildlife photos printed on them?

It's kind of ironic that I was on a week-long photo trip, photographing wildlife, just got home, like, literally, 10 minutes ago, log into POTN, and this post of yours was the first thing I see - a post saying that wildlife photos "have no value to others", and that "no one is interested in them"!

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I think you have to look at that post within the context of the conversation. We were chatting about restoring old family photos and what has staying power. If I look at all the photos I have inherited from my dad and other family members, of the thousands of pictures I have restored, no one in the family is interested in the wildlife pictures he took, or pictures of a vacation, or pictures of stuff. It's the people and in some cases places where those people lived that have lasting power.

I'm not saying that wildlife does not have it's place or are worthless, but a generation or two from now, I don't think many will be wanting restore those old photos. They will want pictures of you.

Very disappointing eclipse last night. We had one cloud in the sky, a high altostratus or maybe a altocumulus that was somewhat translucent, small, but followed the moon all throughout the eclipse. Got a couple pics but I think they are going to be rather disappointing. :(
