Very nice moon shots. I was way to lazy to drag my equipment outside so sat and watched it with the family instead on a beautifully clear night.

Being somewhat lazy, I shot it from an upstairs window.

Very nice. Your industry was well rewarded in 2007.

Ha ha. I still have the same camera (xTi) and the crappy lens from my film days (75-300mm). So a new picture would had looked the same.

Me too... I was watching television and trying valiantly to stay awake. I was up at 0400 both Saturday and Sunday.

We didn't have the best conditions and could not see the moon until 15 minutes after the predicted moonrise. Then we still had haze and a partial cloud bank.

I didn't get a clear shot until just before it was pretty much all over and no longer a blood moon.

I was hoping to see someone, anyone with the 5ds post a moon shot. Looks as good as I imagined it would.

Thanks Chet, but it might have been better not to use the 1.4x and shoot at f/5.6 rather than f/8. Then I could have kept the shutter speed higher and had less motion blur. I was getting star trails and motion blur at anything over 1.3 seconds.

I would think that it would look pretty much like any taken with the 7D or 7DII as their pixel density is the nearly the same.

I suppose. I just know that my shots with the xti at 480mm the moon was very small when I opened the file. I would hope with the higher megapixel camera that you would get better/larger shots.

Actually the moon will be even smaller in relation to the frame. Remember, the only difference between a crop sensor and a FF sensor is the physical size of the sensor itself. The image cast on the sensor is exactly the same size. It's not the total # of MP, it's the density if the pixels themselves. THe 5Ds has a pixel pitch of 4.14 microns, the XTi is 5.7 microns, and a 7DII is 4.09 microns. So the 5Ds will be a bit better than the XTi but the 7DII a bit better than both.
