ya know, you can print a note. I don't have a problem with cursive going away. All too often it is incomprehensible and messy.
But, from an aesthetic standpoint, I don't think that really, really good printing can ever be as beautiful and refined as really, really beautiful cursive. If one wants to create truly beautiful script by hand with a pen, it really is hard to beat the cursive style.
I've been hunting for vintage ledger pages of late, with intention of providing them to a Native American ledger artist. This hunt has lead me to realize just how important excellent handwriting can be. The pieces I find with really beautiful handwriting (cursive) all command quite a premium compared to those with average handwriting.
I bet that 100 years ago, when these store clerks wrote receipts and invoices for common household items and groceries, they never imagined that a century later dozens of people from all around the world would be on computers examining and scrutinizing the handwriting that they used. It really does matter.
