True enough, would not wish a %&*@#^ f%^& day on anyone, even on Jay...

Hope you find a quantum of solace on this #@^%& thread Jay...

Thank you Will. I often come to this thread for a modicum of #@^%& after a bad day. Now...about that vodka.

Right? Tomorrow will be better. I'm the glass half full of whiskey kind of guy.

I am totally a glass totally full of whisky kind of guy. Now if it was tequila.. that's another story.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

My original reply here was insensitive. My apologies. I am better than that.

No matter how bad my day was, at least I still have my legs.

Apology accepted. You have no idea how hard it is for me to drive a wheelchair through deep snow.
And being a legless corrections officer has its own special challenges.

Yesterday was a #@&* day for me. At least the morning sure was. It was a full on Monday.

The one service adviser we have knows just enough about vehicles to be really annoying. He's a friendly, helpful guy, but he oversteps his position too often. Late on Friday he gave me a truck that failed it's emissions test. Had a code for a large EVAP leak. First thing I checked was the gas cap. It didn't fit tight and the filler neck had rust on the sealing edge. I said to replace it and clean up the rust. He shot that idea down immediately, said that that was not the problem, it had to be something else. I smoke tested it, found no leaks. Every component that I tested passed. I could not find anything wrong with it. He wasn't hearing it. Left the truck for the weekend, and on Monday morning I just took the truck outside and handed in the keys. He started into it again. I just told him flat out that I don't know what's wrong with it. And that spending more time on it would result in the same answer. He just wanted to argue. Manager told him to give it up and let someone else work on it.
Guess what the other guy came up with as a diagnosis. Gas cap and clean the rust. And what do you know, the adviser listened to him.
It was a bad start to the week. And I'm ticked that I ended up in an argument in front of the manager. Working on some of these more advanced diagnosis jobs stresses me out. I'm seriously lacking in experience and training in these areas and it drives me nuts that it takes me forever to work through all the testing. Throw that adviser on top and I lose my self control.

Today was a much better day. I think almost everyone in the shop had mechanical work rather than electrical/diagnostic. There's only so many scan tools in the shop and we can't all use them at the same time. The A/C machines were certainly kept busy though. This past weekend was crazy hot and humid and now the A/C jobs are rolling in.
I had an MTO (Ministry of Transportation - Ontario) truck as my last job. A/C not working. The dash temp was 90F, when it was only 72F ambient. No leaks, so I recharged the system and got the dash temp down to 40F. I couldn't resist texting my friend, who I work for when I'm doing the lawn cutting, and telling him that I had one of their trucks and was so tempted to leave some leftover lunch hidden under a seat or something. He offered up a dirty diaper from the baby. Not that we would ever do that, but it's a tempting thought after how many times they pulled us over last summer (and never once found an infraction).

Today ended pretty good. My baseball team played the only other undefeated team in the league tonight, and we spanked them soundly. :D We're 5-0 now.

Might I recommend the fish.

That thought crossed my mind. But I didn't have any fish handy.

Fords friction modifier that's used in differentials is a really good item for such uses. It smells horrendous and you only need a few drops to really stink up the place. But..... I didn't have any handy either.

It never ends, I've been dealing with that mentality for many years.

I know it will never end. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to slap him silly when he acts up like that. Overall he's a fairly decent guy, but he gets an idea in his head and nothing else is right.

The fact that he listened to a guy and not to me, really gets me. Exact same diagnosis. And the other guy that looked at it is not a 'high tech' guy. He's good on mechanical stuff, but he talks himself around in circles when it comes to diagnosing. It just adds to the insult.

I can be quite good with diagnostic work. I had no problems with all the stuff they gave us in school, got top marks, President's Honour Roll, high GPA, and all that stuff. But I'm not up to speed on GM's diagnostic tools and procedures, so I'm having to learn each step as I go.

It's not too bad, nothing like the first night or the next morning.

As a kid, my favorite part was the peeling.

Yeah. When we were kids my sisters and I would see who could peel off the biggest piece. Sometimes there were would be liquid underneath. Good times.
