Hey Mel, got my monthly dose of health food and this month it's from Canada. Gotta say, the chips were excellent.

You should try those chips with Ranch chip dip!! That is a match made in heaven!

I'm disappointed that there's no poutine or peameal bacon. But I suppose those would be harder to ship and keep in edible condition.

I still get ID'd on occasion. Even though I have been of legal drinking age for 16 years now. (In Ontario, legal age is 19) I'm definitely not a kid anymore, but I do still look the same as I did in high school. I'm going grey, but it's not noticeable yet unless you look close.

I grew up in Detroit. We used to go across the river to Windsor to drink because of the lower drinking age. That was before they required passports.

The only time my ID gets checked is my hospital wrist band before surgery.

I live outside of Sarnia, Ontario. There is still enough teenagers that will cross the border to drink. Sarnia doesn't have the greatest selection of bars, but one has some great bands come in and always has a crowd. The casino gets lots of attention too.

I have friends in Port Huron. We crossed the Blue Water Bridge many times into Sarnia. I've never been to the casino's in either Sarnia or Windsor. Detroit brought casino's in thinking it would help revive the city, but unfortunately it didn't.

They really don't do much reviving. The one in Sarnia is actually in Point Edward, the tiny little community that the bridge actually sits in. They have enjoyed the profits from having the casino there, keeps the roads paved. They luck out that it's a tiny community with a big casino with a big draw area.

Here in Iowa, the counties which have casinos in them are required to donate a portion of the profits to the counties without casinos. I get a decent chunk of money as a 501(c)3 non prof which really helps us out. Canada should do that, help you little town folks out a bit.

I have no idea how it all works. Sarnia had slots at the racetrack, but the OLG closed them down. Now the horse racing industry has taken a huge, huge hit as attendance and profits have really dropped.

That's never good. I've been to casino's a couple times since moving to Iowa, but I never really won much. They are huge here, especially for the elderly population. They send buses out to the small towns to pick people up. I just sit back and reap the benefits when it comes to the donations. Vegas has it good. The entertainment at our casino's are names from way back when, and you think "are they still alive?" for most of the groups that play the casinos here.
