-sidebar- Pipes & Drums pain. I am hurting for Scotland at the moment. Painful. I got issued brand new Scottish brogues yesterday and was told to wear em in around home - wearing them new to a march was suicidal. They are beautiful shoes 100% leather made on scotland, got a thistle an all. Come on cotton sacks for packing in the duffle bag after frsh polishing. I don't know if the army pays retail but these babies must have cost the aussie army a bomb!

Brand new brogues - nice and shiny and you've not got a photo of them online? I'm surprised you've not started a "Post your shoe photos here" thread...

John, it's a lovely scene and well captured. I like Dimitri's bridge, too.

Thanks stan (and eos - sorry I missed your post earlier).

Carzee, If you start a foot thread, skade used to have a nice avatar that would fit the bill.

Beautiful shot of the bridge. I doubt if you'd even catch me walk across that. Course that's if I had enough energy to climb it.

Dimitri your shot is great also. I wonder why such a steep arch on these.

the name is Winston but they call me Sandy

I'm sure if there are any architects / engineers on here, they would give you the precise reason. As far as I understand it, this sort of bridge is most stable as a semi-circle because the forces pushing down and trying to collapse it radiate along the stonework until at each end they are pushing down vertically. A less curved bridge would have the forces still pushing out sideways and therefore more prone to collapse.
