so,

i'm about to invest into my first dslr, and I keep having second thoughts about how I should approach it. i'll keep it short and simple (generally speaking):

60d + Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM / Sigma 17-50mm f2.8

or

70d + Canon (kit) 18-55mm IS STM / Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 / Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4

i can't make up my mind!!

70D and Tamron 17-50.

I have the 60D and the Game on 17-50 f2.8 and it's a great combo. Good walk around lens. Sowmtiems I wished it was slightly longer but I'd rather the f2.8 then a slightly longer lense.

Buy if you can get the 70D then go for that.

Do you use video? If so go 70D.

Otherwise, I'd go with the 60D and some better glass.

Having owned the 60D, and 70D, and the Canon 17-55...

Man, this is a tough one. The 18-55 kit is actually a pretty decent lens, and it's great for video AF. I am trying to figure out how to get one to add to my collection actually.

The 17-55 is fantastic. The 60D is a very capable camera - the 70D is definitely a significant step up though. The 60D is three years old.

What do you plan on using the camera for? What kinds of photos, and are you planning on recording video? If video, are you OK with manual focus, or do you want autofocus during video?

If you can provide us with some detail on what you plan on using the camera for we can provide some additional input.

I don't know what you're looking at spending, but COSTCO has a great deal I think, check them out for the 70D two lens kit.

You get a free bag and 32gb card as extras for this Canon bundled deal. Not bad...

The Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 is more than just an okay lens, especially when you take into account the price difference between it and the Canon offering.

I was never all that impressed with the 17-55. I've owned it and sold it. I only sold my Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 when I was changing up my set-up. The one downside of the Tamron is slow, loud focus, but it never really slowed me down when I had it.
