Lightroom (5) 'detail' panel settings

So I have finally given in and upgraded to Lightroom 5 to at least attempt to start using it to process my weddings / non-wedding stuff.

Looking at the defaults for LR5 in the detail panel especially, I note that I've been using dramatically different settings for sharpening.

I've been using approximately the following:
Amount: 70
Radius: .7
Detail: 7
Masking: 50 and up (ISO dependent)

I feel like these settings have been working for me but that it's time to re-evaluate them. What settings do you use in general ?

I should add: I shoot with a canon 5d classic.

On a 600D:

In LR4:
Amount: 80
Radius: 1
Detail: 25 (should probably experiment more with this one)
Masking: 30-50, depending on the picture.

For soft or extremely high ISO photo's, I usually increase the radius to 2 or 3.

^Thanks a lot. Yours is fairly similar to mine--in stark contrast to the built-in defaults which seems to suggest low 'amount' and high 'detail' settings.

I shoot mainly Aviation subjects and with older cameras (300D 20D). I tend to use 60 on the amount, Radius and Detail stay at the default 1.0 and 25, and then anything between about 80 and 100 for the masking. Occasionally I might push the amount up to 70 or so and maybe the radius will go to 1.5 or very rarely 2.0. In those cases though the masking will very often end up at or above 90.

I tend to go "light" -- I set the Amount to about 40 and only use Masking and/or Noise Reduction at higher ISOs (I also use the 5DC as well as my trusty ol' 30D).

I'm using LR4, but that should be similar to LR5. With LR3 and earlier, I'd typically use higher settings.

Oh, hit Alt, while adjusting the slider. Gives a more useable preview.

For high ISO Detail 10, Mask 60-70.

Rene beat me to it... i was just going to say don't forget to use Alt when using the sliders (works especially well for me when applying masking)..

Yep, for those that don't know how it exactally works, holding the alt key while sliding the mask slider, everything white gets sharpened, and everything black doesn't....

I usually do:

Amount - 50
Radius - .8
Detail - 10 for soft images/50 for high detail
Masking - 70 for soft images/30 for high detail

Remember that RAW sharpening is only input sharpening, and it's geared differently than Photoshop because of that exact reason (for example, compare the same radius and amount values on the same image in Photoshop and Lightroom - in Photoshop the effect will be much more pronounced because it's tuned for output sharpening). All you're trying to accomplish is to take the natural softness off the image that happens during the transformation in camera from light to a picture.

Typical for landscapes of mine:

Amount: 45
Radius: .8
Detail: 25 (default- Haven't experiment much with this effect)
Masking: 50ish (usually increase mask until the sky doesn't get sharpened)

Looks like I might be on the lighter side of "amount". I'll have to play with higher numbers.
