Dumbstruck - Fine Chisel @ ZOO (Edinburgh Fringe)

Continuing my highly popular round up from the Fringe, Scotsman Fringe First winning Dumbstruck from music/theatre group Fine Chisel telling stories of loneliness and misunderstanding along with the tale of the 52 Hertz Whale ...

I was on the opposite side of the stage to the where the music was happening, generally, so my shots of those moments are a little flat because it's all compressed onto the same plane - like a soundboard shoot - and the background is the theatre blacks, without any of the spectacle of gig lighting ... I got some shots of them in another show a couple of days later though.

I really like this set. You really captured the characters - they make me want to know more about the play.

Haha, it was like having my birthday and Christmas at the same time - it made the show very trouble free to shoot and I was able to concentrate on trying to capture the characters - who were really good, you can tell a good show when you enjoy the story even watching it through the lens - from my perspective it deserved the award it won, the writing was really good and the music really well incorporated, and Fine Chisel are good musicians as well, they also gig as a band.

Thanks. I actually don't remember shooting a show where I didn't like the images from this particular theatre space, the lighting always seems to just work ... a smaller space and simpler lighting, perhaps simple is effective in this case.

Very nice! I especially like #2 and #3!

Now that I look at it, #2 is a bit front-focussed ... the joys of working quickly on small-screen previews in LR, should have spotted that. #3 got published a couple of times, which is always nice ...
