Please come and share your vacation photos and tell us where you were when you took them! I'd like to see how other people take their vacation photos. Do you set up the shots yourselves? Do you get strangers to snap them for you? Would love to get some creative ideas for vacation shots, too! This is posted in the family section, as opposed to the travel section, because I want the focus really to be on the people in the images!

I was going to post up a couple of self-shot (tripod + timer) photos of me and my wife... but not wanting to be narcissistic, I thought wouldn't it be great if everyone posts their vacation photos? Wife and I don't have the budget yet to do a lot of traveling, but we take a lot of day trips or weekend trips around the New England area. She loves to document those trips with photographs. We don't have kids yet, but I hope this thread is alive in a few years when you'll see some little kiddos in the photos, too. Right now, we just have our dogs and they are tough to pose.

This was taken in Provincetown, Massachusetts right after walking over the mile-long jetty to Long Point.

I'll play. Not the greatest photo but this was taken of me and my wife in Savannah Georgia on historic River Street. I set up the camera and handed it off to her cousin (I think) I think this is only the 3rd photo I've been in. I'm always behind the camera!

Took this photo of my son at the Mystic Aquarium. Lighting is not that great, but it was just a moment that I couldn't resist.

On vacation, I like to go exploring off the beaten path. Found this abandoned amusement park in the Outer Banks and just had to stop and take some pics. This one is of my daughter.

Here is one of my wife and two daughters in Avon, NC (Outer Banks). Get a lot of looks from beach goers when I drag my tripods, light stands and umbrellas out onto the beach :)

HOT TIP: I try to include a reference in the background.

It's a funny vacation picture of me in front of a bush. But it was taken in paris and without that caption it could've been taken in my park.

Vs a picture of me with the eiffel tower in the background.

It sounds cliche, but if there's no Kremlin, you're not in Moscow.

Nice photos, folks! Keep them coming!

GregoryC: I usually dread being in front of the camera and prefer to hide behind it. My wife makes me come out in front and over time, I've learned that it isn't so bad.

gracz: My grandmother immigrated here from Vietnam (having since moved back to Vietnam because she missed home). One of the memories we have is visiting an acquarium and she'd never seen fish like that before. Even if lighting was not perfect, the moment captured and the emotion evoked by the image is what's most important.

erock12: I don't doubt that people look at you with your tripods and gear, but are you really sure beachgoers are watching you or trying to catch a glimpse of the 3 gorgeous women with you?

facedoge: That's just awesome!

DocFrankenstein: Very good point. We don't always put a point of reference in a photo simply because the lighting pretty nice and we just want a pretty photo. However, we always try to take a few additional shots with something that indicates the place.

We were in Cancun for my cousin's wedding. Here we are at the Dreams Riviera resort just before the wedding rehearsal dinner. It was taken by my mom with my wife's smartphone.

Thanks for the add, jskaggs72, but I wanted to focus on the people - not just travel shots... hence this is in the family part of the forum!

That's cute. Is he building a lighthouse himself?
