Thank you for your help
There will be 2 of us taking pics, we are doing this for a favour for our friend. She knows we are not professionals and is happy with this
I have just ordered a 50mm 1.8 lens as well

Going to try and not stress too much

Try to practice as much as possible. Make sure you have a lot of batteries and memory. Also, visit strobist.com for lighting help (if you want to use flash). Study weding pictures for poses. I think B&H has a wedding guide on their YouTube channel. Good luck!

I know a photographer who uses a 40D and 28-135 and a 50 1.8 and his photos are outstanding. He is a master of lighting so they look perfect right out of the camera. ( he shoots jpgs ) Goes to show you its not always about the gear.

I would assume your not using the pop up flash

Would love to see his port.

if you can get to the venue before, do so, take a friend as model, wearing something white, take two if you can, the other one in black. see what you get. Don't go on a sunny day (but be sure what to do if it IS sunny). Buy/rent a flash and practice, if you can, get a bracket and cable to put it up higher. Diffusers are relatively cheap too.

They can't expect pro photos, but it can be a great learning experience to play before the big day. Make sure to know how to use your tools.

Will they have a rehearsal? That would be great for you too, take lots of photos, try different things, write them down.

Good luck!

40D, 5D3, a bunch of lenses and other things

Save yourself the embarssment and say no OR rent a 5D3 + 24-70 2.8. With your current setup you are going to struggle and it is not going to be good.
