That photo booths have had their time and will be gone very soon. Some guys in our area are starting to use these new video booths with Slo Mo cameras.....Seems to be a big hit with people. Comments have been off the walls

IMHO photo booths of any sort detract from the general wedding experience. Everyone gets drunk and waits in line to wear cheap props and look daft in front of the camera. Personally I feel it ruins interaction between wedding guests other than for joking around in a drunken stupor.

I don't deny that guests may enjoy it but it is nothing more than a modern day version of the karaoke machine. Its time will come.

We're doing them for all weddings in 2014.

We got sick of doing dancing photos for hours on end just to pad our shot count. Plus it helps with FB tags and what not.

It's a wedding, not a show. Not having any crap like that at my wedding.

I do photobooths. Just did one this last weekend. I don't love them, but for an extra grand, I have no problem setting one up. I just am not keen on cleaning the alcohol stained props afterwards. Its a trend, and it will probably pass. But in the meantime, it doesn't hurt to increase revenue by offering it. I already have all the equipment necessary, just needed a $50 trip to the dollar store to buy all the props.

Honestly, for an extra grand, wouldn't you set one up on a wedding day you're already working? Its a no brainer to me.

I guess this goes into the category of delivering what the customer wants. I don't think Id' make that choice, but why not if the client wants it, who would the photographer be to dictate what they do, or don't do, at their wedding.

That is providing you offer it as a product. If you don't have the product/service people can't buy it.

I highly doubt traditional photo booths will go away. If anything, this video booth idea is more of a fad. The camera used in that booth is at a minimum $10.

Lastly, your guests cannot go home and pin a video to their fridge. If video was the future, us photographers would be on the sidelines while videographers took over the show.

Its a fun idea, but photo booths still have their place.

I agree.

Remember that the general public is several years behind the cutting-edge of technology and photo trends that we discuss here on the forum, and the more rural you get the farther behind the public gets. There are still clients out there who want selective coloring!

If the client wants a photobooth, and the client's wallet agrees, then the client gets a photobooth.

You're suggesting that people DON'T get drunk and act stupid at a reception unless there's a photo booth around? :)
It's a fun addition to the reception for the people who don't want to get plastered and dance on the tables.

Over the last year more and more weddings I've shot which have had booths (not supplied by me) have seen the dance floors empty for long periods. Also interaction between guests in the room has dropped off massively as there have been queues to use them. (Like those you get at a theme park).

I'm not disputing they that they entertain guests however they have a definite impact of the dynamics of the evening. Personally I don't like them and will never offer them in the same way that I won't do selective colouring.

I never really understood them. Maybe if I'm a 13 year old, I can see wanting it at my bar mitzvah. But definitely not at my own wedding. Ah, but that's just me.

I don't understand how people don't understand the appeal.

I have not done one yet where people are not chomping at the bit to put on silly stuff and get in the frame. Many come back for 2nd's and 3rd's. All comes down to what the customer wants.

I've never understood the appeal of line dancing but it is a huge hit.

I think we can chalk this up to different strokes for different folks! Not to mention, times change, generations of people differ. I'm sure a dozen or so years ago it wasn't common for people to have a face full of telephone (or mobile computer depending how you look at it) during a wedding reception or ceremony, but c'mon... how much of that is there now. People relate differently with one another now-a-days.
