If i have 2 550Ex, do I need a transmitter & receiver or will the 550ex master and slave act as a wireless transmitter and receiver?

So, do I need a st-e2 or radiopoppers or pocket wizards if I have these two flashes?

These flashes have Master capability so you are good to go for wireless. The only caveat is that one has to be on camera at all times to act as Master, and the Slave must be able to see the light from the Master in order to fire.

So if having one flash on-camera and line-of-sight aren't issues for you, you are good to go!

Not necessarily... you can buy long ETTL cables and move the master off-camera as well:

There is a LOT of information on this topic in the Small Flash and Studio Lighting section here:

Well, I am a wedding photographer so It might just be a good idea to go ahead and get a transmitter for reliability right?

I'd suggest lurking in the Small Flash and Studio Lighting section some. I think you will find plenty of options there. One of the most recommended is the YN-622C

And for redundancy.

If you get the transmitters and they fail, you can use the built in wireless. You could also get the cables (they aren't too expensive) and that would be a 3rd back up.

The st-e2 wouldnt be the best for weddings. Look at the YN622 ETTL capable triggering system
