I started looking for a used 60D for my son, I notice new 7d are $1400, used ones going roughly $840, 60%.....new 60d are $700, same 60% would make them used for $420, but is seems everyone wants 500-550? Am I missing something?

Not everything scales linearly. There are a lot more variables to consider then that, or else I should be able to get a used 5DIII for $1800!!!

Ahh, good point. I guess I am just getting frustrated , and figure I might just buy new, the price is just not that far apart new vs used, actually a few months ago new 60d's were going new for $599, but my son had to sell his old camera first.

because there is a 70D that replaced the 60D...the new price has plummeted, and the used market hasn't caught up yet, those people still think it has more value than it does

Plus, the higher the body model the slower the depreciation. xd depreciates slower than xxd models, xxd models depreciate slower than xxxd models.
When the 7dii comes out, used 7d prices will drop more.

Might point is the opposite, the used 7ds are selling at 60% used, while the 60d is 20% ish, I agree with the other post that 60d owners are asking to much

Maybe asking too much, but they are getting it, so it isn't too much.

7D came out a year before the 60D, why would you expect the percentage to be the same?

You can get a refurbished 60d for $549/579 from B&H or Adorama. If your not sure about a refurbished unit do a search in the forums, they are a good deal.

Gear: yeah I have some...

Everyone assumes people are getting what they ask for. A common logic error in speculating markets where there is no verification on actual selling price.

FWIW, I initially had my 60D listed for $550, but quickly realized it would not sell for that price.

Eventually sold it for $750 with Sigma 30mm f1.4 (approximately $475 for the body, $275 for the lens).

Similarly said above, I think it's just people over valuing the camera in their listed prices.

70D is the reason the new price of the 60D has dropped, and the resale value for the 7D has dropped.
