Hi,

Just new to DSLR and want to learn more about where im going wrong, here is a long exposure shot from today on the south coast of Wellington New Zealand, what looks like fog is actually the sea and its movement. Very happy to have C&C :)

Hi from another NZ'r. That's a great start for lomg exposure! I'd say your foreground lacks detail - in fact, your exposure is probably a tad dark overall. If you can't lighten it using your image editting software, I'd try for a longer shutter speed or wider aperture. Did you use a filter to slow the shutter speed or was it late in the day? If it were me, I'd probably climb out on those rocks in the foreground, removing them from the image totally and use those three rocks in the mid range of the image as my foreground so as to have more of that silky water and less shadow. Just keep an eye on your horizon slightly crooked. I see a few dust spots also - eay enough to clone out. Once again - a great spot and nice image - I hope my thoughts are of some use...

Exposure a hair bit dark, i think?

I love the overall atmospheric vibe of the pic though.

IMO it's a bit too dark but otherwise nice

Hi,

Thanks for the comments, having now looked at the image I work it is very dark (and found the brightness on my PC at home on full) This was taken just after sunset so think I could have left the shutter open a little longer.

I also see what you mean about the rocks in the front they add nothing and the real part of the picture is to the rear.

Time to have another go, bring on the fine weather.
