1985 Harley Sportster with a '75 Goldwing front end.

This is my "Up North" neighbor's 1985 1,000cc Harley Sportster with a '75 GL1000 (Goldwing) front end. We were hoping for some light on the horizon behind us to brighten the chrome, but this being Michigan, that light was there yesterday & not to be found the following day when we shot it. ; )

This animation is what I used to put some highlights in the chrome to replace the not so great reflections from the gravel under it.

I would fix the burning in the tires on the first picture and add more contrast to them both. The composition admittedly is boring.

The chrome looks good, the rest of it seemed to have a " haze" look to it. Definitely needs more contrast.

Interesting front end choice. Do you know if the fork tubes are stock length or shortened with custom triple trees ?

The darker tires aren't noticeable in the prints, but I see what you mean here, so I'll fix that on the web images. As for the composition being boring, it's meant to be without anything else in the image taking away from the bike. He wanted two views showing the details & I don't know of any other way to do that in two shots. If he'd asked for four shots including the front & back views, then I could have used a WA lens to add some interest.

I had the same though when I saw the prints, but am not sure how to do that without losing the detail in the saddlebags, seat, & tank. It's one reason why I added the black border because the lighter forum background makes the bike look darker as we see here: https://photography-on-the.net …hp?p=2415343&po​stcount=30
The histogram looks pretty flat, though, so I'm going to have to find a way to pump it up a little.

I wish I could answer that, but it will have to wait until I see him again in about 6 weeks.
The owner is a machinist & I suspect that he took two trashed bikes & made one good one from them.

I like the second one. Its got some emotion in it to me although the right side of the bike is more interesting in terms of what you can see of the engine. The bike however should be run over several times with a steamroller. Putting Honda parts on a Harley is sacrilege.

I can understand where you're coming from, but much the same thing probably was said about the Rat Rods in the '50s.
As I said, he didn't make it because it was a "Awesome" idea. I'm sure that he didn't have the money for a politically correct bike in the first place, but what he does have now is a clean looking bike that he can ride, unlike the "Fitment" junkies today? I had 2-3/4 degrees of negative camber on thefront of the race car, but it was there for a good reason, not because it looked "Awesome".

as long as he is on 2 its better than nothing. could be worse, he could be a cager.

Here's a re-edit, this time not on the laptop. Mostly, I just brightened the bike a little & cleaned up the dark tire for Sean. ; )
