No, the 24mm would not suffice, but your 24-105 will.

I would take your 24L & 50L for the trip.
I'm not a big fan for UWA lens for urban travel any more.
24-105L is good option, too.

Canon 5D3 + Zoom (EF 17-40L, 24-105L & 28-300L, 100-400L II) & Prime (24L II, 85L II, 100L, 135L & 200 f/2.8L II; Zeiss 1,4/35)
Sony α7r + Zeiss 1,8/55 FE
Nikon Coolpix A; Nikon F3 & F100 + Zeiss 1,4/50

I'd borrow it, sometimes you just can't step back far, especially the little side alleys in Venice. I borrowed an ultra wide zoom for Paris this summer, was glad I had it. Might add, I also like the UWA distortions at times, fun to play with.

40D, 5D3, a bunch of lenses and other things

I live in Vienna and can tell ya that you will regret it if you don't bring an ultra-wide with you.

And no need for a tripod, since most places (museums, churches, etc.) forbid them.

Make sure you walk down the sidestreets in any european city, they're packed full of beautiful tidbits that even the natives overlook.

Vienna is pretty expensive when it comes to camera equipment, mostly because none of it is produced here and all of it needs to be shipped in. Normally, the prices here are... American prices + 10% then switch dollars to euros (which adds another 30%). So if you shop online for something and it costs 1,000 dollars in America, you'll end up paying about 1,100 Euro here (or 1,400 to 1,500 USD). So, think twice before coming to central europe for cheap prices.

I have another thought, wondering what you guys would think of it.

I was thinking of obtaining a second hand 17-40 f4 L. inexpensive but quality wise should be good enough?

cheers!

I have a 17-40 L, and I find it tremendously useful here in Vienna, it's one of my most used lenses.

I agree with previous talkers I would also take 24L & 50L for the trip, believe me you will see the difference afterwards. Milan is great place to get some urban pictures.

Hi guys,

Just concluded my trip. Had a little change in plans and went to Klagenfurt, Wolfsberg, Stainz and Vienna in Austria and Venice in Italy. Brought the 24 50 and 300 and for walkabout the 24 was glued to the cam. The 300 exclusively for the Vienna zoo which is a wonderful zoo.
