Surprisingly, it's not bad! I was expecting pure garbage. Now if I were using it every day or in front of clients I'd be inclined to spend the extra money on good equipment. But for a hobby this will fit the bill for a while.

For now I'll most likely be shooting objects, i most likely wont be shooting people for a while anyway

since lm just starting studio work I'm not sure if ill be sticking with it so I don't wanna blow too much money, I'd like to keep it preferably $350-400 at most I don't know how good/bad stuff I can get but like I said I've never done studio work and don't know I ill stick with it I also have to buy a macro lens

You cant really do a studio with quality gear for that price. You would be better off getting a couple of cheap YN speedlights and triggers.

check out this list on Amazon.

Prices are variable, but you can probably get the entire setup for less than $400 if you shop wisely...

I said a quality studio, meaning not little speedlites. As I mentioned above you can do a speedlite option but this does not constitute a decent studio setup.

True, is a flash on the camera a nessecary piece? i feel like the lights them self would do it but i have no idea

if you are shooting objects and not people, I wouldn't imagine you would need something large like a backdrop. Consider getting some foamcore boards from your local hobby shop for $4 each, or even go to a fabric store and get a couple yards of fabric.

I have a 6 foot piece of black fabric I've used as a backdrop for headshots, 1/2 length, etc. that I bought for like $8.

On the camera? No, thats perhaps the last place you want a light.

you suggested he look at speedlites as opposed to a studio setup for the budget he had in mind. That's all I took it for when I posted the link.

You quoted me as if you were trying to refute my assertion that you couldnt build a studio for $400 though.

Studio shooting is TONS of fun.

I(and a few others) highly recommend that you set your self up to shoot tethered.

I am highly biased towards pack+head studio strobe systems(in particular speedotron), but anything will work as long as it gets you the results you want. If you can wait, spend more time reading up on what is what, I wish I had waited just a little bit longer(I would have ended up with much MORE flash gear for the price that I paid).

There is no general formula. Experiment with lights to see what works any what doesn't.

ok, you aren't giving everyone the entire story of what you want to do. You are piecing it together as the posts add up.

no. sorry if it came across that way. I was merely giving him a list of equipment for an inexpensive speedlite setup.

sorry about all the confusion, I'd just like to keep it as cheap as possible but I could slowly add high quality pieces to a studio if it was worth it, since ive never done studio work im not sure where i wanna go with it, just not sure if i wanna go blow a bunch of money on something that doesnt interest me

Maybe you should step back and a take a look at this thread. There are off camera lighthing options that fall short of going full bore into studio work.
