Hi all,

Having a great time working with some new processing techniques and ideas and happy to be moving forwards!

Below it a shot open for critique by the members.

Please do take the time to add something to the thread, even if it is about asking a how to etc.

cheers,

good photo, good PP, but i feel alsmost as if something is missing....or maybe there's too much of something, the eye gets drawn to the rock and then down into the group of rocks at the bottom, I'm finding it fighting for attention so the image is a little unbalanced for me. Maybe crop out a little of the bottom or remove the lighter patch around the bottom rocks.. :)

E2TO tho.. :)

It looks pretty well balanced to me, but cropping just a bit off the right (the small dark rocks) might improve. I like the tonal treatment. I imagine you were using an ND filter?

That's right I was using the Big Stopper, just before the sun rose I recall. I was working on the colour one and got stuck a bit in my processing and chose to go with a mono for a bit while I still work on the full image.

Thanks for your input.

Thanks for your observation Tmz_99. I worked on a few crops prior to settling on this one and appreciate you input about trimming a little off the bottom. I might just to that and take a look. Secondly, just darkening the foreground might do the trick too.

Well done...nice sky, lit rock, exposure and focus. I really don't agree with cropping this capture - I would add to it if possible (pano).

I tend to crop at standard print dimensions and 20x9 is a widest print size I am aware of (only too happy to become aware of wider ones). As it was taken on a 5DMk3 and a good lens, I can crop this wider and print up to about 40 inches comfortably. Bigger on canvas.

You could always have it printed on the largest 2:3 ratio paper you can find (Mpix prints up to 24x36) and trim off the top and bottom white to suit whatever aspect ratio you cropped to (36X9 would be 4:1). Framing it might be a challenge if you're interested in that, but printing shouldn't be a big deal.

I think it looks great as is. Some may not like it because the main subject is front and center, but rules are made to be broken.
