I've still got a fantasy of a massive POTN get together in Iceland, as what I have decided is the geographic center of the POTN world, despite having only about three members there.

Ummm... That is if you like to shoot moon craters! :-)

I could swing by on my way to Paris, but I like to shoot architecture, birds, and history, and I do not think I will find any of that in Iceland. Paris - that's another matter altogether!

I did fly spirit down to ft myers - wife went before me for an extra week with her parents, and went with jetblue, so i packed some clothes in her bag. So i had no carry on (they allow a regular backpack for free), and no checked luggage.

make sure you have a good book or something to do, because unless you have a window
there is 0 entertainment
the seats are a little thinner that allow more seats in - so it could be uncomfortable for some
they will sell food and drinks - so buy snacks before you get to the airport and get a bottle of water after security

but other than that, it is like the budget airlines in europe (ryanair, easyjet), they are cheap but you get what you pay for.

I would do iceland, for the aurora, that i have never seen, the waterfalls, fjords etc. it would be fun.

but when nathan said "alaska or iceland", i would choose alaska over iceland right now.

I'm off to California tomorrow. Andrew, we're actually skipping Yosemite. The drive will be too long. We're hitting L.A., then Death Valley, then Sequoia. If we can swing it, we're going to stop by Salton Sea, too.

Have a safe trip! Too bad about Yosemite but maybe next time.

Hm. Local shoot with a willing participant in a city we love when it's not 8 degrees out?

No sir, I don't like it, and given our history, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

(Seriously though, I could be in for this, lol)

Andrew, I lOVE the "the city is my church" caption! My sentiment exactly :)

Nathan - enjoy the national parks! I envy you, guys!

Car talk? Well, I can contribute - do not boo :) We argued for the last two years what my next car should be - hubby wanted a van/large SUV, I being a city girl with a hidden fondness for public transportation wanted a middle sized sedan tops! Happy to report I won! My new baby was not on the top of my list, nor it has the V6 which I loved on my old one, but it's a VERY sexy piece.

Iceland or Alaska - ahhhh, that's a tough one! Both!!! Unfortunately I won't be able to afford either cause I'm going to Costa Rica for a yoga/surf retreat on my own (YAY!) in early May (which is a small miracle considering how jealous my darling is!)

Which brings me to the nagging question what setup to bring. The major PITA is the baggage restrictions on the second CR airline cause they fly these smallish Cessnas - "All passengers may bring one piece of carry-on luggage as long as it does not exceed the 10-pound weight limit and a maximum size not exceeding 33 linear inches / 84 cm. (length + height + width)" There's no way for me to get onboard my Tamrac Evolution 9 stuffed with every prime I have as usual. I also have a small sling Lowepro photo bag, but it won't fit any laptop. The last night I researched more bags but maybe it's smarter just to pay extra luggage then to buy a new bag. To top it off I'm wondering if renting a zoom thаn traveling with primes won't be a smarter thing (but the 70-200 series are quite heavy and I'm a bit uneasy reading the crime reports in CR!)

I'll be grateful for any ideas and suggestions for optimization on your side

Costa Rica is photographer's paradise. The "problem" is that there are so many very different things you may want to shoot. Unbelievable birds and animals, but since they are (as a rule) fairly far away, like on tall trees or across a river, you will want to have a long telephoto. The beauty of landscapes, volcanoes, rain forests - and you need a wide lens. I had a 70-300 on a crop with me when there, and it was barely enough, and for volcanoes shots I had to use the 10-20. And then there are butterflies, frogs, and weird insects - and it calls for a macro!

So you may have to rethink your strategy of bringing many primes in favor of a smaller number of zoom lenses, or pay for the extra luggage.

really good that there is no noise reduction!!

converted in LR, or with SEP?

Sorry for the late response Harm. Converted in LR. As you can see, there's no other edits done - I guess LR's default for sharpening is 25.
