100-400 for $1,499 minus rebate would be $1299

Unable to get a price match on the Canon 24-70 II at Adorama or B&H.

Aren't they an authorized reseller?

ateet, just to be clear, are you saying that Canon will not honor rebates on these lenses purchases from BB? So no double dipping?

That is correct. You need rebate program ID if you see forms from other retailers. BB has decided not to participate in canon rebates program.

BB is giving Instant Rebates it looks like which is better than risking a large rebate. But again tax for most if not all. So no double dipping. Kinda disappointed at how this played out.

I just called and they told me BEST BUY was on the list of participating retailers and therefore okay.

I checked and they are. So what gives?

That was my impression as well initially, but multiple people have been told NO to Bestbuy including I personally. Also you need the rebate program ID for Bestbuy. Maybe who knows they changed their mind later.

I hate Canon for such ambiguity in rebate program. Thumbs down from me on their bait and switch rebate tactics if Bestbuy deal doesn't hold through.

Edit - Canon updated this today. I can confirm that I wasn't able to see this earlier today morning US EST or yesterday night.

Great... Maybe Canon just updated it. Too the chance to double dip yesterday. The only compelling lenses were 24-70 II and 70-200 II with $300 rebate.

I picked up a 100L macro from BB last night as well when this came out.

Here is a link to the latest from Canon Price Watch on the matter. Looks like BB is on the list and qualifies, but CPW is recommending not cutting the UPC off the box until later in the week, in case something changes. I also printed out the list just in case.

Does anyone know BB's return policy on lenses? I may try the 70-200 to see if it suits my needs, but if it doesn't...

fyi, for those that have to pay tax for best buy, this is not as good of a deal as it would seem when compared to adorama or bh:

best buy:
$2000 lens + 9% tax = $2180
$2180 - $300 = $1880

adorama:
$2300 lens
4% credit = $92
$2300 - $92 - $300 = $1908

so, ordering from bh or adorama costs you about $30 more (depending on tax amount) and you have to spend that credit. but net-wise, it's pretty close.

adorama has one humongous advantage though: for the $7 yearly fee they give you a 3 year warrantee. for that reason I pretty much order everything I can from adorama if it comes close in price.

also note that if you're using one of those credit cards giving % discounts, it would be a greater discount buying the higher initially priced item. after all said and done, it's pretty dang close in price between the choices.

and.... I didn't check out best buy online--do they charge shipping? if they do... well, adorama and bh do not, so you can do the math.
