Coming from Blackpool originally, I would have said, "any pub on the Grange Park estate"

I've sent both my 5D3 and 50L bought from HDEW to Canon RCC (CPS) in the UK multiple times and they never said a word. All they needed was a UK invoice. HDEW provide 2 extra years warranty after the canon warranty is up in addition.

Interesting - so you get a UK invoice from HDEW that is marked with VAT as being paid? I don't think that's the case with people like DigitalRev is it?

I have just dug out my old 60d HDEW receipt from 26.april.11 and there is NO sign of VAT on it even though I went and picked it up myself FROM their office.. Maybe things have changed????

So, do I go and get a 5D mk3 now or will it come down in price anytime soon as it seems to have froze for the last year?? What was the price history of the 5D mk2???

Just wait, and save a bit, then if you have another budget for a travel then come over to my county, i know shops they sell that 5D3 for less than £2000 NEW, last year i found one for almost £1980, maybe now i can get it for £1950 or even £1900 if i can fight with prices.

Good luck!

I got mine from HDEW and my 2 600 ex-rt flashes, no issues what so ever, plus HDEW give you 2 extra years warranty so its ideal, my camera has been to Canon and had no issues with that. Plus someone answered the phone when I called unlike digital rev that you can only leave a message and order that way.

I have just check mine for a 5D3 and it's the same.
However they are a UK company, selling in the UK. Therefore they must add VAT, as VAT is charged at point of sale, and they will have to pay the VAT collected.

Well since june the price has come down by £4.
If the exchange rate is changing and the USD $ is going down then they could be cheaper.

As for the 3 year warrenty, this is cover by a 3rd party insurance.

If there's no VAT printed on the invoice, are Canon still obliged to honour the UK warranty? There's a few people saying they've had no problems, which is encouraging.

HDEW are registered in the UK with a UK company number and address, and most importantly a valid VAT number, which means they are filing VAT returns quarterly.

You can request a VAT receipt, but ordinarily you don't need one (unless claiming it back).

I'll bet you Canon CPS are well aware of HDEW and have no problems. I haven't needed to send anything in within the 1 year warranty to test, but have sent in after a few years a Grey camera and no problems, it's pay and they repaired but also did an additional warranty fix free of charge (5D mirror repair) no quibbles.

Look at DigitalRev for instance and all you will see is a Hong Kong address, no UK company number and no VAT number.

That's the difference, HMRC are getting nothing on this transaction ;) It truly is 'Grey' .
